Hog Waller 25K & 50K

951 Barr St.

Oviedo, FL 25K, 50K

This Event Took Place Sat. Dec 19, 2020

The Hog Waller!

The Hog Waller will be at the Barr Street Trailhead at the Little Big Econ State Forest and I'm excited to bring you back to the trails alongside the Econlockhatchee River. The forest provides a crucial source of protection for wetlands and associated natural communities within the floodplains of the Econlockhatchee and St. Johns rivers. Other natural communities include wet prairie, pine flatwoods, sandhill and scrub.

The original race in 2020 put on by Amy Guevara really impacted a lot of runners from first timers to trail veterans. It's an absolute honor to have this return.

Location: Little Big Econ State Forest: Barr Street Trailhead 951 Barr St, Oviedo, FL 32765

Start Time: 7am

Why the Hog Waller?

Wild pigs have long thrived in the semi tropics of central Florida. When a group of these tusked tenacious critters gets together, they’re known as a sounder. They can be seen running along the black water banks dodging gators, and cooling in their muddy wallows under the cabbage palms. Just like all of us out there on the trails as we are meandering our way from loop to loop to loop!

Did you know: The wild hog (Sus scrofa) is also called feral hog, wild boar, or wild pig. This species is not native to Florida. However, resident populations have existed here for hundreds of years – they may have been introduced by Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto as early as 1539.

The Course

The course will consist of laps around a 5 Mile loop. With little elevation gain and practically zero technical sections the Hog Waller is a perfect race for a first ultra or those looking to set a new PR.

This beautiful section of trail is home to many different types of wildlife; we often encounter wild boar, the gopher tortoise, white-tailed deer, snakes and alligators.
