Course

The course is entirely off-road and primarily consists of beautiful single-track with medium technical difficulty. The remainder of the course is fire road. Both distances are a single-loop design starting and finishing from the Swampy Lakes Sno Park. In the 50k you'll get some awesome views of Broken Top and Mt Bachelor!
The half marathon winds through the high alpine stands and into the meadows of Swede Ridge. The 50k ventures further east of the Swede Ridge and loops down into the Skyliners valley for an adventure characteristic of the PNW.
Here's the twist - in most years you'll encounter snow pack :D Will it be hard? Yes. Will it kick your butt? Probably. Will it be EPIC? Oh heck yes! Your reward for powering through the challenges is a life-defining moment of achievement.
Poles are permitted but you must be aware of your surroundings - the poles will be considered an extension of you, and cannot impede or endanger those around you.
CUTOFFS: The half marathon will have a cutoff of 1:00pm (5 hours; 22:54/mi) and the 50k will have a cutoff of 4:00pm (9 hours; 20:36/mi). A cutoff of 12:45pm will also apply for the 50k at the aid station at 18 miles.

Weather
Dawn is at 4:47am with dusk at 9:20pm (sunrise 5:23am and sunset 8:44pm). Weather in Central Oregon in early June is normally dry, sunny, and excellent for ultra running. Cool mornings and evenings, and very predictable. Expect highs around 70 and lows around 40. However because the course ranges between 4700ft and 6300ft you should expect a chance of cold and/or precipitation.
If a weather system does roll in, weather breaks over the mountains at the west end of the course. Be prepared for wind but it's not a particular concern thanks to mountain and tree cover along the course.
The RD reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule the event if weather threatens the safety of runners or volunteers, or if the trails may be significantly damaged by weather + foot traffic. All reasonable efforts will be made to avoid this scenario, but in the VERY unlikely event of a cancellation, deferrals and partial refunds will be arranged.
