Event Details

Join us for the first annual Oktoberfest trail running celebration, OkTrailBerfest! This is a low key ultra event with an Oktoberfest atmosphere in a fun fall location. Become an inaugural participant by joining in the fun in 2022!

Course and Venue
The race will be held on the Harmon Lake trails, a scenic twisty loop trail around the lake just north of Mandan, ND. The start/finish will be located by the picnic shelter up the hill from the beach. There are two distance options. The 18k is a single clockwise loop featuring the Tight and Twisty, Chutes and Ladders, and Fast and Flowy trails. The 50k runners will head out for a second clockwise loop featuring all Harmon Lake trails - Tight and Twisty, Chutes and Ladders, Epic Loop, Blue Sky, and Fast and Flowy. It’s a very scenic trail with lots of rolling hills and a couple short climbs. Total elevation gain is around 500 feet of climb for the 18k and 1500 feet of climb for the 50k. There are a few rocks and some tight turns but overall it’s a fast and runnable course with a great view of Harmon Lake. The course will be clearly marked, but you’ll need to pay attention as there are several forks that you’ll need to navigate as you go around. It’s unlikely you’ll get really lost and there is generally good cell coverage on the course.

First come, first serve camping is available right on site. Harmon Lake also provides a beach and other family fun activities.

Schedule
7:00-8:30 AM: Packet pickup and onsite registration
9:00 AM: All races start
5:00 PM: Finish line closes (8 hour limit)

Timing
We will use the Ultrasignup app and an old school paper tracking system for backup. All runners must report their numbers at aid stations to ensure proper timing.

Swag
All runners receive an event shirt and finishers receive a commemorative mug. Top three finishers receive an award.

Entertainment
We will have a free taco bar at the finish line and some complimentary beers for runners. Plan to hang out afterward and cheer on a few finishers!

Aid
There will be fully stocked aid stations at approximately miles, 6, 11.4 (start/finish) 17, 22, and 28. We will have water, Tailwind, gels, and typical ultra food. There are no drop bags for the event but 50k runners will be able to access supplies at the start/finish after the first loop at mile 11.4. There are vault toilets near the start/finish area but there are no restroom facilities out on the trails.

Safety
The average low is 33 and the average high is 57. Of course this is North Dakota so we could have anything from 80s and hot to an actual blizzard. The race will be run during daylight hours so lights will not be needed. The trail is home to many mountain bikers, so please be cautious of other traffic, especially in the afternoon.

**Refund Policy: NO REFUNDS. NO EXCEPTIONS**

Weather Policy: In the event of dangerous weather or muddy conditions, we reserve the right to alter or cancel the event with no refund. We will do our best to run the race and give every participant an enjoyable experience, but will not put anyone's safety at risk. With preservation and improvement of our community's trails being a core mission of this race, in the event of muddy conditions we may need to alter the route or cancel the event to avoid serious damage to the trail system.
