What to expect. FAQ's
Q. Can I camp or stay overnight?
A. Yes. Once you arrive on race day, you're welcome to camp in the designated runner village for the duration of the event. No one will be permitted on the farm before the published check-in time on Friday, June 4. Camping is available until the final runner finishes. The closest hotel is the Days Inn in Monroe, NC.
Q. What items are allowed in the runner village?
A. Grills and contained fire pits (smokeless or enclosed) are permitted. Open ground fires are not allowed. Please be respectful of neighboring runners and leave your campsite clean when you depart.
Q. Will there be music during the race?
A. Yes! Music is part of the Backyard Ultra atmosphere. Registered runners will receive a link to contribute songs to our shared Spotify playlist that will be played throughout the weekend. Please keep all submissions family-friendly.
Q. Is there an aid station?
A. Yes. A centrally located aid station will provide water, electrolytes, coffee, and basic snacks throughout the event. Runners should plan to be largely self-supported and are encouraged to bring their own nutrition and hydration strategy. Personal aid and crew support are only permitted between loops in the designated basecamp area. No support is allowed while a runner is on course.
Q. Can I have a crew?
A. Absolutely. Crew members are encouraged and play a big role in the Backyard Ultra experience. Each runner may have one approved on-site vehicle that fits within a standard parking space. Oversized vehicles, RVs, campers, and trailers are not permitted in the primary parking area. Additional crew vehicles will be directed to designated overflow parking. All crew members must follow event support and spectator guidelines.
Q. Can my family and friends come watch?
A. Yes! Spectators are welcome throughout the weekend. Williams Rushing Farm offers excellent viewing areas, food vendors, live entertainment, and a front-row seat to one of endurance running's most unique events.
Q. What is the closest airport?
A. Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is approximately 45 minutes from Williams Rushing Farm.
Q. What weather should I expect?
A. Early June in the Charlotte area typically brings daytime highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s with overnight lows in the 60s. Conditions can change quickly, so runners should prepare for heat, humidity, rain, mud, and overnight temperature changes.
Q. Do I need a designated driver?
A. Yes. For safety reasons, any runner who begins Loop 8 (ultra marathon distance) must have a designated driver or arranged transportation before leaving the property. Fatigue can significantly impair driving ability, especially overnight. Race staff reserve the right to delay a participant's departure if they believe it would be unsafe for them to drive.
Q. Is this race beginner friendly?
A. Yes. Many runners choose the Momentus Backyard Ultra as their first ultramarathon. Because the race resets every hour, you're never committed to a predetermined distance. Whether your goal is one loop, your first marathon, 50 miles, 100 miles, or the championship belt, you'll be welcomed into one of the most supportive endurance communities in the sport.
Q. Are headphones allowed?
A. Yes, but runners should keep the volume low enough to hear race announcements and fellow runners. Please be courteous when passing or being passed.
Q. Are pets allowed?
A. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome in spectator and basecamp areas but are not permitted on the race course. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
