You're Invited to a Special Two-Part Event!
Join us for a day of fun, fitness, and community at Newtown Battlefield State Park, hosted by the Southern Tier Running Club (STRC). This event has two exciting parts:
Part 1: The 3-Hour Trail Challenge
Start Time: 9:00 AM
Location: Newtown Battlefield State Park
Course: 1-mile trail loop with ~300 feet of elevation gain per loop
Challenge yourself on a beautiful 1-mile trail loop in a 3-hour timed event. Run as many loops as you can within the time limit—but remember, only loops completed before the 3-hour mark count! You can stop whenever you like; there's no pressure to run the full duration. Run, hike, walk, stroll for as many miles/minutes as you want.
A fully stocked aid station will be available at the start/finish area to keep you fueled and hydrated.

Free for STRC members (you’ll receive a discount code via email)
$10 for non-members

Note: This is a no-frills event—no swag, no awards, just pure trail running fun.
Part 2: STRC Summer Picnic
Start Time: 12:00 PM (immediately following the trail challenge)
Who’s Invited: All STRC members and anyone who participated in the trail challenge
After the run, stick around for our annual STRC summer picnic! We’ll be grilling burgers and hot dogs, serving up tasty sides, and offering vegetarian/vegan options too. It’s a relaxed, family-friendly gathering with:
A covered pavilion (just in case the weather doesn’t cooperate)
Picnic tables (bring lawn chairs if you’d like)
A large field for games and fun
Volleyball net and horseshoe pits
Yard games (bring your favorites!)
Bring your family, bring your friends—this is a celebration of community and the joy of being outdoors together.
Participants will be responsible for paying the park entry fee which is usually around $10. Or if you are a fan of visiting state parks you can buy the Empire Pass for all year access.
The easy-to-use Empire Pass card is $80- and your key to all-season enjoyment with unlimited day-use entry at most facilities operated by State Parks and the State Dept. of Environmental Conservation including forests, beaches, trails and more. Purchase online or contact your favorite park for more information.
If you are running the race and want to attend the picnic please be sure to select both options when you register so we know how many people are staying for the picnic.
STRC members who don't want to run the race but DO want to attend the picnic please select just the Picnic option when you register for the event.
