Old Ephraim 200

The Old Ephraim 200 is a point-to-point race through the Bear River Mountain Range in Northern Utah. The official route is 215 miles with 40,000 feet of climbing. Runners will experience less than 1.5 miles of pavement, with the rest of the miles being remote single-track trail and ATV/Forest Service roads. Expect dense pines and aspens, open meadows, and long stretches of quiet forested trails.

The race gets its name from Old Ephraim, the legendary giant grizzly bear that once roamed these very mountains. Said to stand over 10 feet tall, Old Ephraim became famous for outsmarting hunters for years. His story is a central part of Logan Canyon history. Runners will pass near areas where he was known to travel, as well as enjoying an aid station at his graveside monument. Today, his legend represents toughness, endurance, and the rugged spirit of these mountains—fitting inspiration for a 200-mile journey. The Old Ephraim 200 is more than a race; it’s a deep dive into Northern Utah’s terrain, history, and mountain character.

Qualifications to Race

Running a 200-mile race is physically and mentally demanding. We want to make sure that all participants fully understand this. In order to run the Old Ephraim 200, you need to have successfully finished at least one mountain 100+ mile race. This can be done during the year 2026 as long as it's completed before race day. We will go through the Ultrasignup results of everyone who registers to confirm that this qualification has been met. If your finish isn't on Ultrasignup (Runsignup or another platform), please email us at greatwesternadventureracing@gmail.com to let us know what your qualifying race is. If you haven't completed a 100+ mile race, but feel you are physically and mentally prepared, please email us at greatwesternadventureracing@gmail.com and we'll discuss your individual case as a team.

Registration Fee

We took a lot of time thinking about the registration fee. We decided to make it $1,599 (before fees) like many of the other 200-mile races in the country. It's our goal, if possible, to make the fee less than that one day. But for this first year, we have a lot to purchase to make this a high quality event. Tents, flags, an arch, camp stoves, and starlink for aid stations to name a few. We also want to compensate volunteers either monetarily or by providing sweet branded gear. We recognize that this is a lot of money, and are open to offering payment plans like other 200-mile races. If you'd like to explore this, please email us at greatwesternadventureracing@gmail.com

Refund Policy

We want to make this experience as easy and simple as possible. We at Great Western Adventures totally understand that life happens. From unexpected emergencies, to injuries, or simply not being 100% ready to race. We don’t want you to feel tied down to this race simply because of the money you’ve invested into it. If the race is full and there is a racer on the waitlist who can fill your spot, you can get a 100% refund on your entry fee if you need to withdraw. If the race isn’t full and a racer can’t fill your spot from the waitlist, you have two options. You can either get a 50% refund if you withdraw, or can get a 100% rollover to the following year. This decision must be made in writing before May 1. After May 1, there will be no refunds but you can choose to rollover 50% of your entry to the following year.
If the race has to be canceled for any reason outside of the race committee's control (weather, fire, etc) then 100% of your entry will be rolled over to the following year. All rollovers are only valid for the following year's race.
