The "why' behind the race
This race was born from the unbreakable spirit of a boy who never spoke, never walked, never ran—yet inspired others to do all three with purpose.
Gage Leftwich, son of Greg and Jennifer Leftwich, lived with the ultra-rare degenerative disorder NGLY1, a condition that impacted his liver, muscles, and brain. Though his challenges were immense, Gage’s life was anything but small. At Mississippi Valley State School for the Handicapped, he was surrounded by educators and caregivers who poured relentless love and determination into helping him become his very best.
Gage’s journey intersected with a group of local ultra runners who believed in something bigger than miles and medals. Through Ainsley's Angels, they didn’t just run with Gage—they ran with him and for him, carrying his spirit and building a bond.
When Gage passed away in 2022 at just 22 years old, his story didn’t end—it ignited something greater.
This race is that legacy.
It’s a call to bring your BEAST—to dig deep, push limits, and run not just for yourself, but for those who can’t. Every step you take honors Gage and others like him, transforming endurance into impact.
Run with purpose. Run with heart. Make every mile matter—far beyond the finish line.
The Team Gage Bease Endurance Race/Gage Leftwich Memorial Race is a registered 501c3.
Proceeds
All money goes to the Mississippi Valley State School for the Handicapped in Hannibal, Missouri, enriching the lives of children with special needs and ensuring their stories continue to inspire, as well as the Grace Science Foundation, leaders in the research on NGLY 1.
Nobody cares what you did yesterday...what have you done today to better yourself or others?
Every step is for those who can't run so run for those who can't!
