Marathon and Half Marathon
The Dupont Trail Marathon is a great venue for those interested in trying out their first trail race. All races will start at 9 o’clock. The courses will be very well marked as well is having aid stations every 3 to 5 miles. The course is also great for those veterans who need a nice tuneup.
The Dupont Trail Marathon and Half Marathon begin in Sellars Park Park and heads north through some beautifully forested trail. Take a left at a five way intersection heading north through the Edmunds marsh. Go left at a three-way intersection where you’ll go through a short but beautifully forested section, after a short trot through the forest it will open up once again into beautiful marsh, continue under Center Street, up a short hill, where you’ll see Dupont City Hall on your left(0.6miles). Follow the course markings through in the open fence down the Sequalitchew Creek trail, through a railroad tunnel to Puget Sound. . Follow the trail markings along Puget Sound to the turnaround and continue back through the rail road tunnel. Heading back up the Sequalitchew for very short distance, take a trail off to the right that will cross the Sequalitchew Creek. The trail will head up some steep switchbacks for short distance. Continue on the marked trail through the fence line where you will run along Puget Sound(I call this the tunnel trail because of how the trees and brush have grown up over the trail and there are also great views of Puget Sound). Follow the course markings to the 1st aid station where you’ll be greeted by volunteers eager to help you with any of your running needs. Shortly after the aid station you will cross the road heading south through DuPont’s beautifully managed open space. There will be several road crossings, so be careful while crossing the roads. Follow the course markings to a beautiful overlook of the Nisqually wildlife refuge. This is a short loop. Trust the markings that I’ve set out to take you back to the station where you’ll once again be greeted by volunteers eager to assist you. Follow the course markings to the tree tunnel trail, back down the switchbacks to the Sequalitchew Creek trail and go right, up the hill. Follow the course markings back to the starting area for the finish where volunteers will be eagerly awaiting your return to serve you food and drink. If you are doing a marathon you will need to continue through the timing area stop at the aid station for food and drink and repeat the course that gives you great views of DuPont’s beautiful open spaces and amazing views of Puget Sound.
