Halloween Hustle—Family Friendly Spooktacular Event

There’s no better way to celebrate Halloween than to join our second annual “Halloween Hustle” Race on Saturday, October 26, 2019! Choose from the Frightening 5k (plus*) route or the kid’s Monster Mile run or, new this year, the 10k!

Delta County Nonmotorized Trails (“DCNT”) is dressing up for its first race, which will be held at the Day’s River Pathway. You may encounter a zombie passing out drinks at the aid station or a wicked witch handing out your race packet—all frightening fun.

Trail running is a unique adventure for everyone whether you walk, jog, run or try an obstacle on the Monster Mile. The trail winds along the Days River through pine, spruce and cedar ridges of the Escanaba River State Forest making it one of the most popular local trails.

The race is scheduled to kick off at 10am with race packet and t-shirt pickup starting at 8:30am at the trailhead. The mile run will start right at 10:00 am and the 5k and 10k at 10:30.

Proceeds from the race will support our mission to create and maintain sustainable nonmotorized multi-use trail systems in Delta County that use the region’s natural assets and expand recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.

(We need a few volunteers to make this event happen. Volunteers can sign up on Ultrasignup, the same page where you would sign up to run.)

The course

The course for the 5k consists of loops 1 and 2 of the Days River Trail. The course offers peaceful woods and beautiful views of the river. You'll find the trail well groomed but rolling enough to keep it interesting. It should be a great introduction to trail running for the less experienced trail runner and a fun, fast course for the more seasoned trail runner.

The 1 mile course for the kids' fun run uses a portion of the skate ski loop, a wider, easier trail for beginning trail runners, but with a few obstacles. For runners who want to see a little more of the trail and run longer, the 10k uses lops 1, 2, and 3.

*For those of you who look at your watches and keep track of time and distance, the 5k course is a little on the long side, more like 3.5 miles. What's a little extra distance when you're enjoying the great outdoors?
