Screaming Monkey 100 | A Wild Race around a Chimpanzee Sanctuary

The 5th annual Screaming Monkey 100 will kick off at Eddie D. Jones Park in Keithville, Louisiana on the 4th of November 2023. Eddie D. Jones is unofficially known as The Monkey Trails due to its proximity to a National Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Runners will hear the nearby primates during many sections of the trail as the course encricles the sanctuary.

Monkey Trails is a Top 10 Mountain Bike destination in Louisiana and is large enough to support sizeable loops; runners will have the option of a 25K, or ultra distances of 50K, 100K, and a 100 miler.
The course itself will feature miles and miles of undulating, technical single track, and select equestrian/utv trails. During the day you will also be serenaded by the bells from the Veterans Cemetery at the park entrance. The trail terrain varies from technical forest track to pine-straw-covered, rolling red-clay hills. There is even a ravine section that will make you wonder if you're still in Louisiana. All 100M, 100K, 50K, and 25K participants will enjoy a quality 15.5-mile technical loop trail. Each loop has about 1050 feet of elevation gain and loss.

A 10k will be held on the 5th at 8 am. 10k runners will run the first 6 miles of the trail and not the entire loop! If you ran Saturday and you want to run on Sunday too....send me an email and I'll get you a discount for you alone for the Sunday race! Otherwise, this is a great opportunity for Pacers and friends and family to experience the course! There will be overall winners for this but not AG awards for the 10k. Also, no catered meal for the 10k but help yourself to trail food that'll still be abundant. Also, I do cinnamon buns on Sunday morning! There will be liquid refreshments available.

    Course Details

The course itself is a 15.5 MILE LOOP; it's about 75% single-track trails, 12% wide rolling hill equestrian trails, and less than 11% small gravel and 2% road. The soil is a moderately packed surface generously mixed with roots, rocks, and some water depending on the weather. This course has about 1100 ft. of elevation per 15.5 mile loop. It's a up and down, in an out course with varied terrain. It's tough but fair! This course is a beast but at the same time, it's FUN! If you are up for a challenge and you want a good race at a good venue at a great price....surrounded by great people then this is the event you want to attend.

The cut for the 25k and 50k is the same as the 100 mile have plenty of time. This race is on "fall back" weekend so 100 milers will get an extra bonus hour....33 hours! We do allow pacers at dark for the 100k and 100mile; or if darkness is approaching prior to the next aid station. We allow drop bags and they will be at the aid station you pass at mile 9, and mile 14.

    Aid Stations

There is an aid station at the start/finish area you will access at the end of each loop, and 2 aid stations on-course (one of which will be accessed twice).

    • Aid Station 1:Start/Finish

    • Aid Station 2:Mile 5

    • Aid Station 3:Mile 9; drop bag access

    • Aid Station 3:Mile 14; drop bag access

    • Aid Station 1:Start/Finish
