Welcome to Dick Collins Firetrails!
Be sure to check our website with the Blog and Updates sections at the top of the page, for updates and news.
Join us in September as we continue the tradition of Dick Collins Firetrails. This race has been run in one form or another for decades, going way back to when Dick Collins himself was the race director. Firetrails for many years was directed by the great Ann Trason, who had a special connection to Dick and considered him a mentor. Dick Collins is remembered on a bench near the turnaround for the 50-mile race, in the camp below Skyline Gate.
Dick Collins Firetrails is now made of 2 events: Firetrails 50 and The Golden Hills Marathon.
UTMB. Both Dick Collins Firetrails races are UTMB Index races. The Firetrails 50 counts as a 100k event and Golden Hill Marathon counts as a 50k event for UTMB purposes.
P-USATF Grand Prix The Firetrails 50-mile race is part of the Pacific USATF Grand Prix.
A note to runners: Starting in June 2021, UTMB no longer accepts ITRA results and instead asks us to submit directly to them. All results are given now to UTMB. For this reason, we are no longer posting results in the ITRA system.
The Courses
Just minutes from Lake Chabot, this new location adds a new single track section at the beginning and end of the races. The new parts of the course are challenging but offer stunning views from parts of the Bay Area Ridge Trail that most people rarely run.
Firetrails 50 mile is an out-and-back course mostly along the legendary East Bay Skyline National Trail. You will enjoy fire roads and single-track with gorgeous views of San Francisco and Mt. Diablo.
The turn around is at Skyline Gate. The course has an altitude profile of slightly less than 8,500ft, which makes this race challenging but very runnable.
The Golden Hills Marathon is a point-to-point race starting at the Chabot Space and Science Center. Runners will travel by bus from the start area at Cull Canyon. More details on your bus ride when you register.
Please check our website for maps and other course data under the Course tab. You will find information about drop bags and pacers under the Aid Station information.
Starting Times and Time Limits
The Firetrails 50 starts at 6 am from Cull Canyon at the Maple campground. You will be able to enter the park at 5 am to park. Parking is free! Proceed to the Maple campground. We will check you in and start the race there.
The Golden Hills Marathon starts at 8 am. Busses leave Cull Canyon at 7 am. You can check in there starting at 6 am.
