Cloudcroft Ultra Information

Join us for the 6th annual Cloudcroft Ultra 53k, 9.5 mile & 4.75 (4.75 mile newly added in 2021) trail races in the beautiful Sacramento Mountains in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. Cloudcroft is located at an altitude of 8600' in the southern most part of the Rocky Mountain chain.

All three races are an out an back on the Rim Trail (T105). The Rim Trail was the first U.S. Forest Service Trail in New Mexico to be designated as a National Recreation Trail. It is a combination of old Indian paths, railroad grades, homestead trails and logging routes linked together by newer section built in the 1960’s and beyond. The majority of the trail passes through shaded stands of fir, pine and quaking aspen. At various points along the route there are spectacular views of the Tularosa Basin over 4,000’ below. The 53k will have a nice surprise for you in the lollipop loop at the turn around point - incredible views, and some nice changes in elevation!!

All races will start and finish at the Pavilion in Zenith Park in Cloudcroft, New Mexico.

Entry includes a technical t-shirt, finisher awards to all 53k racers, post race food, well stocked aid stations and a well marked course.

Packet pick up - Friday, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the pavilion in Zenith Park next to the tennis courts or Saturday morning 45 minutes before the designated race starts. We have spread out the starts to limit the number of people at the pavilion. Please do not show up more than an hour before your race. Awards will be given out as you finish for the 53k and 9.5mile. A short awards ceremony will be at approximately 9:15 am for the 4.75 mile race..

Drop bags are allowed for the 53k racers. Bring them Friday or Saturday during packet pick up. They will be available at mile 13 and again at mile 20. (you hit this aid station twice)

53k starts at 7:00am
4.75 mile starts at 8:00
9.5 mile starts at 9:00 am

Food will be provided for racers - $5 for anyone else.

There are 6 aid stations stocked with a sport drink, water, gels, pretzels, chips, candies, etc...they are located at:
Aid station 1/6 3.2 miles from start/finish and mile 30ish on your way back in
Aid station 2/5 6.9 mile from the start/finish and mile 26ish on your way back in
Aid station 3/4 13 miles from start/finish and mile 20 on your way back in

Cut off times:
1. The first cut off time will be at Alamo Peak aid station (#3) to start the loop by 11:00am. (This gives the runners 4 hours to get to mile 13 - Alamo peak Aid station.)
2. Second cut off time will be 2:00pm at aid station #4 to be done with the loop (mile 20)That gives them 3 hours to do the loop (7 miles).
3. Third cut off will be at mile 26ish - Aid station #5 . This cut off will be at 4:30pm
4. Last cut off will be at mile 30ish - Aid station 6. This cut off will be at 6:00pm. One hour to go 3.2 miles to the finish.

There are overall awards 1st - 3rd for the 53k men and women
master awards (50 plus) 1st - 3rd 53k men and women
overall awards 9.5 mile 1st - 3rd men and women
master awards (50 plus) 9.5 mile 1st-3rd place men and women
1st - 3rd age group awards for 4.75 mile racers (10 -19 men and women, 20-29 men and women, etc. through 70+.)
and of course the DFL award for our last 53k racer who crosses the finish line!

Other

The races will be chip timed.

Crew Access to Aid Stations

Crew will have access to Aid Stations 1/6 and 3/4. This is an out and back with a lollipop loop at the end so you will hit the same aid stations twice.
1/6 - Just before mile marker 1 on the Sunspot Hwy (Rd 6563), Rim Trail Parking #2
3/4 - Just after mile marker 6 on the Sunspot Hwy, take a right onto Alamo Peak Road just after the log cabin (paved road with a cattle guard). This is a one lane road so go SLOW for just about a mile and you will see the aid station
