Half Marathon

This race starts at the new Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park. Amazing area nestled right at the base of Butterfield Canyon with Kennecott Mine overlooking the area.

The first segment will be your most difficult. This segment will have it all, smooth single track, rocky steep climbs, ridges with great vistas, and densely wooded trails as you cruise down to the aid station.

After your scenic downhill run to Yellow Forks Aid you will begin climbing up the incredible Yellow Forks Trail to reach the ridge once more using a new smooth single track trail to do so. From there you will enjoy these new single track trails all the way back to the finish line.

Start to Aid 1 - 6.5 miles +1,224/-986 ft

Aid 1 to Finish - 6.7 miles +825/-1,066 ft

13.2 miles and +2.049 ft elevation total
81% Dirt Trail, 9% Fire Road, 8% Dirt Road

**Hydration vest or bottle strongly recommended. This course has one aid station. This is due to the remoteness of the area. There will be trail marshals to ensure safety and course adherence.

10k

This race starts at the new Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park. Amazing area nestled right at the base of Butterfield Canyon with Kennecott Mine overlooking the area.

The 10k will showcase the new trail system built by Salt Lake County. With the exception of one short rocky and dirt road section the entire race will be on well made smooth single track trail winding through beautiful wooded areas.

Start to finish - 6.2 miles +720/-720 ft

6.2 miles and +720 ft elevation total
96% Dirt Trail, 2% Fire Road, 2% Dirt Road

**Hydration vest or bottle strongly recommended. This course has no aid stations. This is due to the remoteness of the area. There will be trail marshals to ensure safety and course adherence.

Navigation

Course is marked with pink flags, ribbons, signs, and trail marshals. The flagging will come before, during, and after the turn. This flagging will be on the same side of the trail as the turn. For example, a right turn will have flagging on the right side of the trail before and after the right turn.

We will only mark turns, trail changes or areas we feel need it. If you come to an intersection or see a trail branching off the main trail and there are no flags stay on the same trail and continue straight.

About Us

At Happy Trails Running we focus on a beautiful course and an amazing experience. We want our races to be events that runners look forward to every year. We believe in quality over quantity which is why we cap all races at 300 or less participants. This lets us hold races in unique areas that would be off limits to a large race due to parking and trail capacity.

We also believe in keeping everything local. This enables us to both support our community but also keep costs down. We want our races to be simple, affordable, and convenient for runners. You won't find huge expos at our races, just local businesses, friends, and family having a great time!

If there is anything we can do to improve your experience with our races please reach out to us. We are always trying to improve our events. Your feedback, what you liked and did not like, is the best way to achieve this.

Our courses will not focus on setting PR's with mostly downhill running but instead on enjoying all of the beautiful trails the Wasatch Mountains have to offer. We hope our races will make lasting memories and experiences for all of our runners.

If it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you!

We hope to see you at the races or on the trails. Until then, Happy Trails!
