Course Information
Sign up soon, we will sell out! Based off 1st & 2nd year participation and a splash of voodoo folklore, this race will fill up fast. We have a limited number of runners allowed by DNR and are thankful to host this race rooted rich in local ultra history.
Why Kill Bill? The tough ascent to Oyster Dome originally was referred to by local ultra runners as Kill Bill Hill, not only a reference to its unforgiving climb, but also tribute to a local ultra runner Bill Ball who used the rocky, root layered climb as a course route for Mount Blanchard Ultra. Bill Ball or to some Kill Bill, for better or worse, is largely responsible for more than a few local ultra runners. I remember seeing Kill Bill without shoes the first time, his feet totally wrecked like minced meat. I asked; Bill what the hell happened to your feet? Bill said; I just ran Cascade Crest 100 miler. Before that, I didn’t know 100 mile races existed. So as a tribute to Kill Bill we are resurrecting Kill Bill Hill with a few twists. So come join us and charge up the British Army Trail, you’re a soldier so make it count and look good. Traverse Alternate Incline Trail with it’s solid vertical and sweet canopy covered single track. Explore Blanchard Mountain trails as you traverse the mountainside to Samish Bay, pushing up Kill Bill Hill, stopping at Oyster Dome. Down a freshly shucked oyster (it’s almost mandatory). See the sea and taste gems of the sound, all at the top of Oyster Dome. Because let’s face it, oysters are way better than GU. Will give you a shot of water to chase it down.
Parking is LIMITED
We strongly encourage carpooling. Parking is extremely limited, and a Discover Pass is required. Should you require a Discover Pass, you can purchase one online (please allow a few weeks for delivery) or at various retailers throughout Washington.
Please note that the upper parking area is a little under a mile from the race start area, so allow yourself enough time to make the trek down, check in, and prepare yourself for the race.
At the parking lots, we will have attendants directing people when they’re parking in an attempt to maximize the space. Bring the smallest vehicle you own (say a Civic instead of a F350 or Suburban) in an attempt to help us maximize parking. This is one of the first times a permit has been allowed in this area due to parking issues. With your help we can continue to provide a race on these amazing trails. You may be asked to park closer to a vehicle than you are normally comfortable with, please keep that in mind.
There is a Park and Ride directly off of I-5 at the Alger exit. The lot is free, safe, and roughly 2 miles from the trailhead. Please utilize our Facebook page to coordinate carpooling.
Start Time/Cut Off
The start time for Kill Bill's Oyster Dome Challenge is 7:00 am, and we have given a generous cut-off time of 12 hours. So everyone must be finished by 7:00 pm. It will start getting dark around 9:00 pm so if you can't finish the 50k in 12 hours please sign up for the 25k. Because the cut-off time is so generous we decided there will not be an early start. We will have food, refreshments, and other goodies for everyone even the back-of-the-packers!
Elevation Profile
The 50k course consists of 2 loops of the 25k course. The elevation gain in each loop is 3500', the loss is the same. The course has quite a few tough climbs, long downhills, and a few long easy rolling sections. Overall the course is tough but the views are worth all the effort. This is one of my favorite training areas in the state. I hope you enjoy it as well.
BIB PICK UP
No bib pick-up the day before the race. All bib pick-up is done the morning of the race. We strongly recommend to get to the race start 45 mins to 1 hour prior to the start to help secure yourself a good parking spot and to get your bib.
