The 2024 race is now completed. Check back sometime in the next several months for details for our 2025 race.
Race Details
The race will start and finish in Cope Park, downtown Juneau. The route will take a quick pass through town before heading up to Basin Road and Perserverance Trail. Runners then ascend to the summit of Mt. Juneau at mile 4.9 and 3500' up. From here the route traverses the spectacular Juneau Ridge for three miles and then descends into Granite Basin back onto Perserverance Trail at around mile 11. The final four miles are fast if you still have the legs and follows Perserverance back to Basin Road and return to Cope Park via The Flume. The total distance is approx. 15 miles with 5000' of total elevation gain. Finish times generally range between 2:15 and 6 hours. It is not necessary to be able to run the ascents in order to finish the race within 6 hours, but participants should generally be comfortable with running on flat and downhill technical terrain. There is a 2h 30m summit time limit. All racers who are not ready to leave the Mt. Juneau summit checkpoint in good condition by 11:30 will be pulled from the race and will need to descend back down the Mt Juneau trail.
There will be three checkpoints along the course, but please be aware that due to the remote nature of these locations these are checkpoints and not aid stations. They will be stocked with a very limited amount of food and water to ensure runner safety but racers are expected to carry everything with them that they anticipate needing for the duration of the race. All Runners who are not comfortable drinking untreated ground water should either plan to carry all the water you will need for the duration of the race or a small filter or filter bottle. Runners will be required to carry a basic kit of gear for the race including a wind/water resistant jacket, long sleeve shirt, emergency space blanket (or bivy), hat, gloves, water and food. As race day approaches and we have a weather forecast there will be further communication on gear. In extremely inclement weather there may be additional gear requirements or the race may be postponed to a later date. The ascent up Mt. Juneau and much of the traverse along the ridge will have cell phone coverage. There is no cell phone coverage for most of the second half of the race
Post race activities in Cope Park will include food featuring wood fired pizza by Forno Rosso and awards beginning at or soon after 3pm.
Participation is currently limited to ages 18 and over on race day. Runners ages 16 or 17 may petition the race directors for entry. No participants under 16.
