One and done!
Dear runners and friends,
I’ve decided to cancel the Ansonia 5K.
To be completely transparent, I created this race specifically for the Run 169 Towns Society. Ansonia has no other official races, and I wanted to offer something meaningful—not just a town to check off, but a thoughtfully designed event grounded in the true spirit of running. I also hoped it would serve as an alternative to my June 6-Hour Race in Ansonia, which fills quickly.
That 6-Hour event has always been the heart of my work as a race director. My passion lies in helping runners bridge the gap from the marathon to the ultramarathon. It’s more than a race—it’s a launching pad for people testing their limits, expanding their definition of what’s possible, and discovering the power of time-based endurance. That’s where I focus my energy and intention.
So, it’s been discouraging to see a wave of refund requests for this 5K—mostly from runners who registered, then chose a different race in another town (Eastford). It’s left me feeling a bit used, as though the event I created in good faith was treated more like a throwaway box to tick than a community-driven experience.
To the Run 169 community: I admire your commitment to the journey. But I encourage you to ask yourselves why you’re doing it. Running all 169 towns can be an incredible, meaningful goal—but only if we’re also showing up with purpose, respect, and appreciation for the events that make it possible.
Refunds will be initiated over the weekend. I sincerely wish all runners in the group the best of luck as you continue your journey—may you find joy, connection, and meaning in every mile.
