This Event Took Place Sat. Oct 12, 2024

8th Annual Bear Trap Trail Races

Tooele County is home to beautiful Settlement Canyon, founded and settled by Mormon pioneers in late 1849. These scenic courses will take runners through forested singletrack, rugged dirt roads, exposed bench trails, steep deserty ridgeline, and rolling foothills, all while enjoying stunning views of Tooele Valley, and the 9,000-10,000 ft+ peaks surrounding the canyon. Come enjoy the beauty and solitude of getting off the asphalt and onto the dirt!

The Course Layout

This year, the Bear Trap Trail Races event will consist of 3 unique loops, taking you up into Settlement Canyon, along Center Ridge, (up to 9,600' Tooele Peak, for the Marathon distance) through Left Hand Fork, and around the foothills above Settlement Canyon Reservoir; upon completing each loop, you will return to the Start/Finish Area, which will serve as your aid station.

Loop A will be approximately 6.20 miles, with ~1,800 ft of vert
(87% single-track, 3% double-track, & 10% dirtroad).
Trails included: Ridge Trail, Bottom/Muddy Trail, & Left Hand Fork Trail
PURPLE Course Markings

Loop B will be approximately 8.6 miles, with ~1,700 ft of vert
(78% single-track, 13% double-track, 8% dirt road, & 1% pavement).
Trails included: Dark Trail, Old Kennecott Road, Bench Trail, & Left Hand Fork Trail
BLUE Course Markings

Race Simply

We create our events, especially our courses, to give you a beautiful, challenging experience, racing in the foothills and mountains of Tooele County's Oquirrh Mountains!

Our prices are low - we don't give out gimmicky race entry bags full of clutter you'll never use; we don't hand out finisher's awards that will end up in a drawer somewhere; and we don't play thumping music, announce finishers over a PA, or display flashy finish line arches.

The course is where it's at. Each year, we like to keep things interesting by changing up the course routes! Always with an eye for scenery and the challenge: what will the runner see as they're flying down wooded single-track or as they crest a tough climb? Would it be more of a challenge to climb a mild dirt road or a rocky, technical ravine trail? Each of these distances will treat you to challenging trail conditions and beautiful views of the surrounding Oquirrh & Stansbury Mountain Ranges & the Tooele Valley.

Our aid station will be adequately stocked to help you get to the finish line.

The vibe will be very low-key; but you'll face stiff competition, whichever distance you choose.

The top three men & women in each distance will receive a modest award.

We look forward to having you, and are excited to show off some off the great trails the Oquirrh's have to offer!
