It's not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves. -Sir Edmund Hillary
Get ready to summit the tallest mountain in the Siskiyou range...or do it twice! This festive race to celebrate mountain running climbs Mt. Ashland through the ski area. Choose from a Half Marathon that descends into the upper watershed trails or take on the Summit Challenge that climbs to the top of Mt. Ashland, then descends the "back bowls" around the mountain to return to the start. Or, take on the Half+ that follows both courses.
Half Marathon and Half + start at 8am; Summit Challenge starts at 8:30am. Packet pick-up is 7:00 - 8:15am at the ski area. There will be a pre-race briefing 5 minutes before at the start line.
For the Summit Challnege- The race will start and finish in the ski area parking lot. The course will follow the Mt. Ashland Summit Trail, climbing nearly 1,000' in about a mile. Catch your breath at "the ball" and then descent back to the ski area using Forest Service Roads 300 and 20. You can view the Strava route at https://www.strava.com/routes/3044331369622839442. Each lap is approximately 3.9 miles at 921' of vertical climb.
There are three options this year: 1 lap, 2 laps, or 3 laps!!
The Half Marathon will descend Bull Gap Trail and follow forest roads and Upper Eastview Trail before ascending the full Bull Gap Trail. The Half+ will then run 1 lap of the Summit Challenge. View the Half Marathon course here: https://www.strava.com/routes/3160368825750387730. The Half Marathon comes with 2,315' of vert at 13.3 miles, and the Half+ is 17.2 miles with 3,236' of climbing.
As if running a great race isn't enough, every finisher will also receive a nice commemorative item, as well as a finisher medal. Finish party will include refreshments. Shirts and other items are available as add-ons.
