Burney Mountain 100

A Journey Through Lassen National Forest and the Thousand Lakes Wilderness
The Burney Mountain 100 is Northern California’s most scenic and immersive 100‑mile experience—one unforgettable loop through Lassen National Forest, the Burney Basin, and the rugged Thousand Lakes Wilderness. Starting and finishing at the Burney Mountain Guest Ranch, runners travel through some of the most pristine and remote landscapes in the region, surrounded by volcanic peaks, deep forests, and sweeping high‑country vistas.

Course Options Based on Snowmelt
Because this race takes place in true mountain terrain, the final route depends on seasonal snow conditions. Four possible course variations—Course A, B, C, and D—allow flexibility while preserving the spirit and challenge of the event.

Course A is the only version that fully summits Magee Peak. It is a rare treat, available only in low‑snow years when the high country is safely accessible.

Courses B, C, and D adjust the upper‑elevation sections depending on how much snow remains and how high we can safely get runners.
Regardless of the year, each course maintains the same overall character: remote, wild, and breathtaking.

Elevation, Terrain & Scenery
With approximately 15,000 feet of cumulative climbing, the Burney Mountain 100 delivers a powerful mix of challenge and beauty. From the flanks of Burney Mountain, runners take in panoramic views of Mount Lassen, Mount Shasta, the Hat Creek Rim, and the vast volcanic landscapes that define this region.

The terrain shifts constantly—rocky ridgelines, soft forest floor, open high‑country slopes, and deep wilderness singletrack—creating a dynamic and engaging journey from start to finish.

A Dawn Start for Maximum Beauty
The 4:30 am start gives runners the chance to experience the mountains waking up. Dawn light spills across the forests, lakes, and volcanic peaks, offering some of the most memorable moments of the entire race.

A Celebration of Northern California’s Wildest Places
This race is more than a test of endurance—it’s a full immersion into one of the most awe‑inspiring landscapes in the West. Whether you’re weaving through dense forest or climbing above the tree line, every mile pulls you deeper into the heart of Northern California’s volcanic wilderness.
