2027 Registration Update
The Babylon Fire has now reached much of the Bears Ears Ultra course. We had hoped the fire would be limited to the 50 Mile section, but unfortunately that is no longer the case.
At this time, we will not be opening registration for the 2027 Bears Ears Ultra. Until the fire is fully contained and the Forest Service has had an opportunity to assess the damage, we simply don't know what the future of this event will look like.
We are committed to helping with trail restoration once conditions allow, but at this point we don't know when—or even if—that work can begin. We remain hopeful that one day we'll be able to welcome runners back to the Abajo Mountains.
We're incredibly grateful that our 2026 runners had the chance to experience the magic of the Abajos before this fire. At the same time, we're heartbroken to see a wildfire burning through an area that holds so much natural beauty, history, and cultural significance. Our thoughts are with everyone affected and with the firefighters and crews working tirelessly to protect this special place.
We'll continue to share updates as we learn more. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support.
Bears Ears Ultra
Bears Ears Ultra is a 50 mile, 50K, and 30K race held in the peaceful Abajo Mountains of Monticello, Utah. Runners are treated to stunning views of Canyonlands National Park, Bears Ears National Monument, and even Monument Valley and Bears Ears Buttes. In the distance, you can see Dead Horse Point State Park, Six Shooter Peaks, Behind the Rocks Wilderness Study Area, and La Sal Mountains. Starting in the early morning, runners enjoy a sunrise over Canyonlands. As they climb the Robertson Pasture Trail, they can see as far as Colorado’s San Juan Mountains. At nearly 11,000 feet, the course offers expansive views of Southeastern Utah’s canyon country. In addition to the breathtaking scenery, runners experience some of the most remote singletrack trails in Utah.
