Iron X: An Extreme Ironing Race

Iron X is an extreme ironing race. Ironists (participants) will iron in some of the most iconic Auburn, CA locations while running a half-marathon.

What is extreme ironing? If you're not familiar with the sport, please read this first.

This is a fatass - an unofficial event. There will be no aid stations, no medical, no medals, no crew, and no pacers allowed. You must be able to be self-supported.

Rules and iron locations are still in the works, but the following will give you an idea of what to expect.

Ironists must wear a button-up shirt throughout the race, removing it, ironing it, and then putting it back on at each of the following locations (you can wear another shirt underneath):
1. The Foundation Iron (middle of the old foundation at Robie Point)
2. The River Iron (at least knee deep in the river, just S of No Hands Bridge)
3. The No Hands Iron (in the middle of No Hands Bridge)
4. The Foresthill Bridge Iron (top of Kickass, E side of bridge, S side of Foresthill Rd)
5. The Dead Car Iron (on top of vehicle remains)
6. The Statue & Train Iron (on the statue's foundation block, E side of Lincoln Ave between Elm & Harrison, downtown Auburn)
7. The Clock Tower Iron (in front of/next to it, Lincoln Way at High St, downtown Auburn)
8. The Courthouse Iron (in the parking lot in front of the old courthouse, old town Auburn)

Spectators are allowed at all ironing locations except for The Dead Car Iron.

Ironists must record a video of themselves ironing their shirt at each location for proof of completion. The location must be clear in each video. Having another ironist or spectator shoot said video is also acceptable, should they happen to be on location at the same time. "Spectator crew" are allowed for this purpose, but this is all they're allowed to do. Providing aid or assisting in any other way is not allowed.

Failure to complete an iron in the location specified and provide the required video evidence will result in a penalty of 10 minutes (added to your finish time) per location.

Each ironist must provide their own ironing board, iron, fuel, and water, and carry them on their person throughout the event. No muling allowed. Finding the right pack for this purpose may be the trickiest part of your preparation. Snowboard-mountaineering packs may work, but snowboards are generally a bit narrower than ironing boards. Feel free to discuss on the facebook event page.

Ironists' ironing boards must be at least 3' 3" long and 11" wide. Boards must have legs.

Battery-powered irons are required for this, for obvious reasons. Plastic irons are acceptable.
