2027 COURSE DIRECTION — NEW!
We're switching things up for 2027! The course will be run in the opposite direction from previous years.
The loop remains approximately 6.2 km, with approximately 146 m of ascent and 152 m of descent, but you'll experience it from a whole new perspective.
START / FINISH & TRANSITION AREA
The Start/Finish is located at Keith King Memorial Park, with the timing tent, aid station and team transition area all together. There is plenty of parking and washroom facilities on-site.
Teams and solo runners are encouraged to create their own base camps. Bring comfy chairs, banners, cowbells, snacks and whatever else makes your day more fun! The course runs directly through the Start/Finish, so you can cheer on your teammates and fellow runners throughout the day.
Runners will have dedicated volunteers assisting with lap tracking.
CAMPING IN GOLDEN
Coming from out of town? Camping will be available at the Golden Municipal Campground, making it easy to turn race weekend into a full Golden adventure.
We've arranged a discounted camping rate for Slackers participants. Discounted camping registration link coming soon!
KIDS & YOUTH
We love seeing families out enjoying the day together, but the race course is an active race environment and children must be supervised at all times.
• Children must have a bib to be on the race course and must be officially registered with a signed waiver.
• Participants under 13 must be accompanied by a parent/supervising adult while on course.
• Participants 13 and older may run without a parent accompanying them, provided a parent/guardian has signed the required waiver.
THE FINER DETAILS
• No rain date, we run in sun, rain, snow and sleet!
• Cancellation only in the event of force majeure preventing aid stations/support staff from safely functioning
• No refunds or credits in the event of cancellation
• No bib transfers, bandits, pacers or deferrals
• No littering, pack it in, pack it out
• Runners must remain on the established course
• No dogs accompanying runners on course
• Crews may assist runners only at the Start/Finish area, no sneaky on course company. We know this has happened in the past, we ask that it is discontinued.
COMMUNITY FIRST
The Slacker is a community-based, eco-friendly, volunteer-supported event. We work closely with the Town of Golden, Golden Cycling Club, and Recreation Sites and Trails BC to provide a safe, fun and exciting day on the trails.

Common Q&A's
Can my child run loops as part of a team?
Absolutely! We ask that anyone under the age of 13 register as a participant and run with an adult (only 1 lap counts), anyone over 13 is allowed on course solo to complete their laps.
Are you Dog Friendly?
We love dogs!! We ask that they stay in the festivities area, on leash and under control as part of your cheer squad! There will be no dogs allowed on course.
Are there Aid Stations on course?
There are no aid stations on the course, there will be water, electrolytes and food available to runners at the start/finish line but we ask that you come self contained and ready to run! If you wish to run with a hydration pack or belt, by all means! It can get hot out there mid afternoon.
I'm running the 12hr Race, do I need to run for 12?
No!! This is your race! If you need to stop and take a break, you take a break. We ask as always that you check in and out with the volunteer table so we know what lap your on, where you are on course, or if you're resting.
Are there washrooms on site?
There are washrooms and porta potties on site.
What do I do if I want to leave the race early?
We ask that you let our volunteer table know so they can note on our lap counter that you are done for the day and will not be back out on course.
How are the laps counted?
When you return from your loop you will run right up to the volunteer table where you will find your name (under your race category) there you will check beside your name and write down the time (roughly) you came in at. Either you hi-five a team mate and they head out for their loop, take a rest or perhaps your head right back out for more fun running! Always check in when a lap has been completed.
Will the race happen in all weather conditions?
You bet. Please come prepared for sun, rain, even snow! There is plenty of space in the festive area to set up a crewing space with a gazebo or tent of some sort. A spot where you, your crew and or team and spread out and get ready for a day of fun!
Are there prizes?
Always! We have draw prizes, we have best costume, best team name prizes! After the race has wrapped up we will be recognizing the Top 3 distances covered in each category.
How can I volunteer- running isn't for me this year?
Head over to VolunteerSignup and search Selkirk Slacker 12hr or copy and paste this link: volunteersignup.org/8XFFX all positions are listed!
Have the Team Catergories changed? There used to be more options
We have consolidated all teams into an Up to 5 Category! Whether your a 3 person or a 5 person you're all out there vying for the same glory!

We have campsites available through the Golden Municipal Campground. They have graciously provided a 10% discount code, if this if of interest please email the RD and a code provided.
