Welcome to Ellenville Mountain Running Festival
Please join us at the Ellenville Mountain Running Festival for a rugged 16-mile run to the top of the ridge! For 2017, the race will consist of a single 16-mile division that starts and finishes at Berme Road Park in scenic Ellenville, NY, just a short 2-hour drive from NYC. Fantastic 100+ mile views from the highest point in the Shawangunks
The course is designed for the adventurous and self-reliant, featuring a mix of runnable carriage roads and rugged single-track, with several steep climbs and descents. Along the way, you’ll cross through the highest point in the Shawangunk Mountains, experience a unique ecosystem identified by the Nature Conservancy as “one of Earth’s last great places,” and take in magnificent 6-state, 100 mile+ vistas, including spectacular views of the Catskill Mountains and the Hudson Valley.
In keeping with the adventurous format, we’ll provide maps to guide participants along the course (which is well-signed) but there won’t be any supplemental markings (paying attention is part of the challenge!). Aid will be limited to water, but we’ll provide food, drink, and music at the festive finish line, and a coupon for a free beer (or other drink) at nearby Aroma Thyme Bistro. First through third place, male and female, will receive distinctive awards.

The race starts at 9:00 AM, Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Berme Rd Park in the village of Ellenville, NY.
The course is a mix of carriage road and single track, with a mile and a half or so on the roads at the beginning. Estimated total elevation gain is 3,000 feet. You can check out an interactive map showing the course here.
Note: The cut-off time is 3:00 PM.
Navigation and Race Management
The trail is well-marked with blazes, and also has signs at major intersections. We will provide runners with course maps, but there will not be any supplemental race markings. Also, there will be no aid stations, so you must bring whatever nutrition you need to sustain yourself for 16 miles. We will have water available at two points along the course.
There is plenty of parking at the race start-finish at Berme Rd. Park. As you arrive, follow signage or volunteers directing you to the lawn on the west end of the park.
Awards & Amenities
Special Shawangunk Ridge prizes for the Top 3 male and female finishers. All participants receive a special commemorative item, and also a coupon for a free beer (or other beverage) at nearby Aroma Thyme Bistro. Additionally, you'll get 16 miles credit toward the Long Path Race Series 100-mile commemorative coin!
As part of the registration process, you will have a chance to make an optional donation to the Palisades Park Conservancy, the not-for-profit partner of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission that oversees Minnewaska State Park Preserve. These donations will be earmarked for renovation of the carriage roads on which the race takes place, which will improve the experience for future Ellenville Mountain Running Festival racers and all the other runners and hikers who visit and use these trails.
