Capital Climb

Lake Tahoe

Carson City, NV 21 Miler

This Event Took Place Sat. Aug 5, 2017

Course Description

This is the 3rd and final run of the Tahoe Dirt & Vert Series that also has over 5000' of climbing with the start/finish located in downtown Carson City, NV. The beginning of this run starts off with a couple miles of pavement before turning into a very steep forest service dirt road at the water tanks above town. While climbing and breathing very heavily, you'll be treated to some spectacular views of the valley east of Lake Tahoe. After about 6.5 miles, the road finally starts to level off and comes to an intersection where runners will turn left, climb some more and then pass through a gate and enter onto Spooner Lake State Park land. From here it is approximately 3.5 miles through an alpine forest before the final steep climb above treeline to Snow Valley Peak at 9218'. Runners then return the same route down quad busting hills to the finish. Not much technical on this route, just some steep WTF hill climbing!

Registration

Event registration is $75, $85 after July 15. Online registration closes at midnight Wednesday August 2nd. Onsite registration at packet pick up or race day is $95. Race day registration and runner check-in is from 5:00AM-5:45AM. Race start is 6:00AM.

Start/Finish location

Brewery Arts Center
Carson City, NV

Aid Stations

The plan is to have two aid stations out on the course, one about mid-way up the mountain and the other at the summit. Aid stations will be supplied with sweet and salty snack type food as well as electrolyte tablets and some hardier real food resembling an ultra style aid station. A/S's will also be water only, no sports drink and no cups. So please carry your favorite sports drink with you.

Race Day Check-in

All runners must check in prior to the race start at the Brewery Arts Center on race morning even if you have already picked up your bib# at packet pick-up. This is to ensure an accurate headcount to how many and who is out on the course. If you don't check-in you don't officially start which means you don't officially finish and I would hate for you not to get any credit for enduring and completing this challenge!. Runner check-in is from 5:00AM-5:45AM. Pre-race briefing starts at 5:50AM with race start at 6:00AM.

Awards

There will be awards for top 3 overall M&F finishers and age division winners only. Age divisions are M&F: <13, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.
Currently working on finisher awards for all runners. Will most likely be a professionally taken photo from out on the course and a free local brew.
Series awards for top 3 overall M&F finishers and age division winners will also be presented at the conclusion of this event.

Parking

There should be plenty of parking along West Kings Street and adjacent residential side streets to accommodate everyone. Still, please plan on arriving early to give yourself plenty of time to park, check-in, and get organized. This is an early start in a residential neighborhood, so please be considerate and keep noise to a minimum when arriving in the morning. Thank you for your understanding!
