Cancelled Event
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Registration Closed
Given the updated CDC guidelines, registration for the Stumpy Pond races has been closed. No new registrations will be accepted while the club works on an postponement/cancellation plan. It is likely that the races will be cancelled. If so, full refunds will be provided. More information on that in the next day or so.
Awards and Swag
Due to very low registrations, there will be no finisher medals for the half marathon this year. There will be overall and age group awards for the half marathon made by Jonathan Ibach as well as a race swag for both races. There will be no shirts.
However, there will be no price increase. The current prices will remain in effect until the races close on May 7.
Description
Back for another year, the Stumpy Pond Trail Race are two challenging trail races located at the ASC Greenway in Fort Mill, SC. There will be half marathon and 8K options. The 8K is part of the Mill Stone Trail Race Series. If you are thinking that this race will be on pavement or groomed paths like many urban parks called greenways, that is not the case. The ASC Greenway is a 3000-acre natural area and the races will consist of almost all single-track, technical trails. You should have some trail running experience before this race, and there a many opportunities to check out the course with the Rock Hill Striders.
Directions
The race start can be reached through the Adventure Center Road entrance to the ASC Greenway.
From I-77, take Exit 88, Gold Hill Road, and follow Hwy. 460 (Springfield Parkway) east towards Fort Mill. After about 6 miles, the Adventure Road Greenway entrance will be on the right. The attendant at the gate will direct you to the race start.
You can click on the map icon above to get the location of the entrance.
I suggest that you do not use your GPS to find the race location. There are several entrances and entering the ASC Greenway in your GPS will almost definitely take you to the wrong entrance.
Refund Policy
There are no refunds, transfers, or deferrals allowed for any reason including race cancellation. Entry fees collected are used to develop and produce the event, starting well in advance of the race date – including course preparation, race supplies, permits and administration. We pledge to make every effort to produce a fair and safe event for all participants. Any decision we make that impacts potential cancellation is carefully considered and based on the overall event safety and manageability. Please see the Inclement Weather section for more information on cancellations.
Stumpy Pond 8K
The Stumpy Pond 8K is held during the half marathon and is the third race in the Mill Stone 8K Trail Race Series, which includes the Ring in the New Year 8K, the Mill Stone 8K, the Stumpy Pond 8K, and the Haigler 8K. Registration pages for all of those races are set up. Check there for more information.
Registration for each race is separate, but if you have registered for the first three races, you will be comped in the Haigler 8K.
Inclement Weather
The event will be held rain or shine. Please monitor the weather and any communications sent out from the race director and make sure you are prepared. If the conditions are dangerous, the ASC Greenway may close the facility. In that case, the event will be cancelled. Due to scheduling, there would be no makeup date in the event of a cancellation. Notifications about conditions, weather, cancellations and other information will be sent by email, posted on the Rock Hill Striders website and on the group Facebook page.
Course Maps
The 8K course follows the half marathon course, but turns right at the bridge over the creek..
