Race Cancellation

Due to escalating conditions surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, we will with a heavy heart be cancelling all three of our 2020 Desert RATS races; Desert RATS Trail Running Festival, 18 Road races (Rabbit Valley Half and Classic mountain bike race) and the Desert RATS stage race (we will be contacting all stage racers separate from this).

I can’t express how disappointed we are to have to do this. I’m sorry to wait so long for the cancellation on the Trail Running Festival be we have spent hours assessing, reassessing and modifying as the rapidly changing events unfold. I can list all the reasons we need to cancel including permits, volunteer help and social responsibility and the bottom line is that we need to accept that it is not a possibility this year.

While we know that you would all love to run the race, we have worked hard to give you some options that we feel are reasonable and fair. Many of our costs have already been laid out and we not only want to be able to continue this event but keep the businesses that we work with alive. These are difficult times for everyone and we ask that you keep that in mind as you look at your options.

1. Move 100% of your entry to our Mountain RATS race in Eagle, CO in September. This will save you deferment and processing fees and enter you in our first race back. We will have a 50K, marathon, half marathon and 50K mtb with a fun packet pickup party, racer party Saturday night and Eagle is an incredible community with amazing trails.

2. We will forego our no refund policy wtihin a month of the event and keep available our generous early season refund policy where you can receive 85% deferment credit that you can use for any of our upcoming races.

3. Donate your entire 2020 entry fee. We hope you understand about sunk costs in races and how it affects small businesses. We work with almost 100% local vendors and we would like to make sure that everyone receives their fees and makes it to next season.

We ask that you act upon your decision by the end of the month. Any unclaimed entries will be assumed to fall into the #3 category. Again, we are so sorry to have to cancel. The spring trail season is the highlight of the year for us and we know that it is for you too. Best of luck to everyone and we hope you're getting out there, safely and responsibly, wherever you are.

Original Refund Policy:
30 Days or more prior to the Event: 85% credit of registration fee (excluding UltraSignup fees).
Less than 30 days prior to the Event: No refunds or credit given.
Credits may be applied to any future Gemini Adventures race and will be valid for 12 months.
Registered runners may also switch between distances. No refunds or credit will be given for dropping down in distance. If stepping up in distance, the added current pricing of the longer distance will be charged (excluding Ultrasignup fees).
To request credits, log in to your UltraSignup account, and go to Registration History. Select Edit for the event, and scroll to the bottom of the page where Cancel Registration is linked. Follow the prompts.


Racers will run from Grand Junction, Colorado to the world famous Moab, Utah along the beautiful 148-mile Kokopelli trail. Distances will range from day to day between 9 and 43 miles. This is a grueling event that will challenge the most seasoned athletes yet it is designed so that less experienced ultrarunners can train for and successfully complete the course. The entire length of the trail is stunningly beautiful with jagged canyons and breathtaking vistas.

We are now requiring approval to participate in the Desert RATS Kokopelli 150 stage race.

3. Register (via Ultrasignup or Postal Mail)
4. Get physical exam (within 30 days of event)
5. Racer check-in/pre-race meeting at the event

Entry fee:
Early (until January 1st)-$1650
Standard (until April 1)-$1800
Late (until June 1)-$2100

Cancellations and requests for refunds must be made in writing in order to avoid any misunderstanding. Cancellation refunds will be made on the following basis.
·Cancellations prior to January 1 qualify for a refund of 50%.
·Cancellations between January 1 and April 1 qualify for a refund of 30%.
·Cancellations on or after April 1 do not qualify for refunds.

Registration Documentation
To register for the Desert RATS the applicant must submit the following documents:
· Completed registration forms
· Personal information form (This will be emailed to you after your registration has been accepted)
· A medical certificate to be completed by entrant’s physician (to be dated not more than 28 days prior to the race and brought to check-in)
· 2 passport size photos with entrant’s name on the back (to be brought to registration)

Desert RATS Merchandise
We will have shirts and hats to purchase at check-in and throughout the event. Let us know if you would like to purchase a strobe from us and we could have it waiting for you at check-in.
