Registration opens November 15, 2018.
Broken Goat 50k/25k/12k
Broken Goat is BC's most rustic ultra. This unique point to point race takes runners up 4 peaks & 2 ridges along the 7summits trail & Red Mountain Resort, in Rossland, BC. Runners should expect a mix of single track and alpine trails with some peaks only having ribbon marking your way. Rossland is located approximately halfway between Vancouver and Calgary on Highway 3B, only 6 kilometers north of the U.S. border.
1.7km Vertical Climb
Returning in 2019 for our 5th year celebration, the Broken Goat Vertical Climb will be offered to anyone who is registered for the 12k, 25k or 50k events - free of charge! The Vertical Climb is a steep ascent straight up a black diamond MTB trail called Dreadhead, on Red Mountain ski resort. This is the same trail that the 12k and 50k runners have in their race course, from the base of Red Mountain.
We will have top 3 female & top 3 male finishers in the Vertical Climb and we will also have a new race category for the top female runner and male runner, based on combined times as follows:
12km + 1.7km = 13.7km
25km + 1.7km - 26.7km
50km + 1.7km = 51.7km
The RED Chair lift will be running (free of charge) which will allow spectators access to the summit of Red Mountain to cheer out on course and at the finish. Racers and spectators can then take the chair lift back down to Red Resort for dinner on the patio (don't forget to make reservations) and mandatory racer briefing.
?Please note: Spectators must obtain a lift ticket for chair access & racers will have a ticket in their race package.
The 50k point to point route takes place on the beautiful “7 Summits” high alpine ridge trail while accessing several peaks & ridges via short, steep side trips along the way. The race proceeds along the peaks and ridges in the following order: Mt Plewman (2241m/7350ft), Unnecessary Ridge (2100m/6,888ft), Old Glory Mtn (2376m/7800ft), Record Ridge (1760m/5,772ft) Granite Mtn (2036m/6700ft), and finishes by climbing up Red Mtn (1591m/5218ft).
The Broken Goat 25k course follows the same route as the 50k course, only it doesn't include any of the side trips/summits along the way. Runners will be spoiled running along the “7 Summits” trail as it is one of the premier trails in the West Kootenays. Not to mention, the trail cruises at an average elevation of almost 2000m (6560ft). Runners will want to save some legs for the demanding descent on a mix of forest service road and amazing single track which will lead them into the finish at the base of Red Mountain Resort.
The Broken Goat 12km course starts off at the base of Red Mountain Resort before taking runners straight up a super steep single track trail to the top of Red Mountain. It will be worth your effort, as from here runners can expect to run on some of the nicest single track this area has to offer! Mega views. Mega fun.
