Wy’east Howl

Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort

Mt. Hood, OR 100K, 50K, 1/2 Marathon

This Event Took Place Sat. Jul 27, 2019

Cancelled Event

On June 12, an announcement was sent to all registered runners stating the event has been cancelled. We have offered all runners the option to rollover their entry to next year, or claim a full credit toward a future Daybreak Racing event or donate their entry.

Next year's Wy'east Howl will be planned for July 30 & 31, 2021.

We are hopeful the race will occur as planned. Registration has been adjusted to a waitlist temporarily due to the uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic. Signing up for the waitlist reserves your spot in the race, but your card is NOT charged. Normal registration will reopen when Coronavirus restrictions are lifted, then we will invite waitlisters to confirm their registration (and pay the fee) once that determination has been made.

Howling on Mt. Hood!

Welcome to the Wy'east Howl on Mt. Hood’s home trails, presented by Salomon! The Howl offers wildly scenic and beautiful 100K, 50K and half marathon trail running races on Wy'east (the native name of Mt. Hood, pronounced "why-east") including the iconic Timberline Trail as well as its surrounding ridgelines. The Wy'east Howl offers the only ultra trail races on the slopes of Mt. Hood proper, providing an exclusive mountain race experience. Each course features extensive mountain views and miles of runnable singletrack trails through Pacific NW forest, waterfalls, wildflower meadows and exposed ridgelines.

Mt. Hood Meadows

The event is staged at Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Lodge, offering an accessible, family-friendly full service venue right on the mountain. Meadows is locally owned and operated and will host all the event activities that aren’t out on the trails, including secure parking, runner check-in, restrooms, food service and shuttle buses to the 50K start line. Car camping will be allowed in the main parking lot the Friday night before the race for a small fee upon arrival.

The 100K is a lollipop-loop style course that starts and finishes at Mt. Hood Meadows ski area. The course tours the iconic Timberline Trail and other trails on Mt. Hood before following scenic ridgeline trails and some rugged historic double track roads to the volcano's backcountry ridges, mountain lakes and forested creeks. The views are relentless as will be the challenge, but after all that's why we're here :) Eight aid stations are offered on this lollipop-loop style course, with 11,100' of ascent and 11,100' of descent, for a true mountain ultra trail challenge. Refer to the race website for in depth course details.

We expect a sellout, which will guarantee the 100K will be a WESTERN STATES QUALIFIER for 2021.

The 50K is an absolutely stunning point-to-point course! Runners ride shuttle busses out to the start on Surveyor's Ridge east of the mountain and run back onto the mountain for the finish at Mt. Hood Meadows. The course follows ridgeline trails, some rugged double-track jeep roads, then more exquisite single track including the Timberline Trail. Four full aid stations are offered, involving 6000' of ascent and 4600' of descent. Refer to the race website for in depth course details.

Half Marathon

The half marathon course offers magnificent views and a super fun lollipop loop-style course run entirely on the volcano! The race starts and finishes at Mt. Hood Meadows main lodge and travels through a diverse range of forest and wildflower meadows. The course presents an considerable mountain challenge featuring 2,600' of elevation gain and 2,600' of loss over 13.1 miles.
