MURCA V50K Overview
The Marine UltraRunners Club of America (MURCA) is proud to host its second annual virtual race, the 2019 MURCA V50K. This year's event will benefit The Warrior's Keep. The event is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC for the first time. Don't miss this opportunity to be part of a unique event with MURCA. The window for completing the V50K is February 1st to June 30th, 2019. All V50K's must be completed within this window.
This is an annual event to provide the unique opportunity to take part in a community-building virtual effort, raise money for a worthy charity, and to give non-ultra MURCAns the opportunity to complete their first ultra to maintain their standing in the group. The charity for this year's V50K is The Warrior's Keep, a non-profit organization whose mission and ethos is closely aligned with that of the Marine UltraRunners Club of America.
Registration opens on Feb 1st, 2019 here on UltraSignup. This event is open to MURCAns, their friends, family, and all supporters of MURCA. Registration closes at midnight on Tuesday, April 30th, 2019.
The primary vehicle for raising money and support for The Warrior's Keep is the prize drawing. As an add-on to your registration, please consider donating to The Warrior's Keep at one of two donation tiers: $25 (scarlet), $50 (gold). In addition to helping The Warrior's Keep, your donation will enter you into the respective prize drawing, and 100% of your donation goes to the charity. Please note that selecting more than one of either donation will increase your chances of winning! A live prize drawing for this year's event will take place in early June by a fire team of MURCAns.
Over $1,500 in prizes so far, and the list will continue to grow up until the prize drawings in June. We have prizes from Orange Mud, Rabbit, Territory Run Co, PowerDot, Running Warehouse, KS Ultralight Gear, Bravo Concealment, Chomps, Frag Out Clothing Co., several MURCA originals, and more!
Although this is a fundraiser for The Warrior's Keep, you still get unique swag to commemorate your run. All finisher's will receive a hefty, custom 5" finisher's medal. The first 100 entrants will receive a custom MURCA wrap. Wraps and medals will be shipped together, beginning late April/early May.
MOST EPIC 50K
All participants also have the opportunity to enter their V50K into the MOST EPIC V50K competition. Shortly after the end of the race window (June 30th), MURCAns vote on the MOST EPIC 50K. The winner of the MOST EPIC 50K receives a one-of-a-kind award.
Eligibility: Some evidence of your run must be present, although this does not have to be a GPX or Strava upload. Without solid data, a thorough and detailed narrative with pictures and witnesses must be offered in your group post about your run.
Decision: The MOST EPIC 50K will be decided by the group. During the week following the last day of the virtual race window, all MURCAns will vote on their favorite to receive this honor. Details on how voting will happen will be provided later.
Award: A one-of-a-kind trophy will be awarded to the MURCAn who ran the MOST EPIC 50K. The ME50K trophy is a unique keepsake, hand-made by a skilled artisan and retired Marine.

1. Run, jog, hike, or walk 50 kilometers in a single effort within 24 hours. A "single effort" means no extended breaks between multiple efforts that aggregate to 50 km for the day.
2.Your V50k must NOT be an organized race or event that you are participating in. For example, I cannot count my Psycho Wyco 50k in February as my MURCA V50k. The only exception to this is a local "fat ass" style 50k in which two or more MURCAns attend together as a group run.
3. You can carry, pre-stash, or have friends/family provide aid to you during the 50k.
4. To show completion and qualify for your finisher's medal, you must provide MURCA with proof of your 50K. This can be done by ONE OF TWO WAYS: a) Post in the MURCA FB group to tell the group how your run went, or b) Email MURCA and provide a link to your activity data, or share the story of your event. You are NOT required to provide .gpx, .tcx or similar data to prove you ran 50k, although it is highly encouraged.
5. If you get injured or cannot complete the V50k in the race window, please contact Mike via the MURCA FB group or via email; the V50K's can be completed outside of the time window in extenuating circumstances.
The Warrior's Keep
The Warrior's Keep is a 501(C)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization founded and operated by military veterans whose mission is to unite, empower, and enhance the quality of life for veterans with the use of outdoor adventure and recreational therapies. All veterans were trained to go to war but never trained to come back home. The goal of The Warrior's Keep is to fill a part of every veteran's life that was left behind when they left active duty. The sense of purpose and camaraderie felt when serving is the driving force behind The Warrior's Keep.
The money raised from the MURCA V50K will help fund The Warrior's Keep's Vet-Ex and Vet-Rec Outdoor Therapy Programs. Please CLICK HERE to read more about The Warrior's Keep.
MURCA is a group of ultrarunning Marine veterans located worldwide. As a small fraction of the few, the proud, MURCAns know the physical and mental suffering found inside the proverbial pain cave and draw from a deep well of fortitude to push beyond perceived limitations.
Local time: 2:04 AM
Inside MURCA it's about supporting fellow Marine runners and sharing a sense of camaraderie that is familiar to and cherished by Marines.
Outside the club it's about service to greater causes and leadership, by setting a positive example for fellow runners to emulate on the roads, trails, and track.
