Event Description
We are excited to invite any trail runner to join us for this great event. Our goal is to offer a quality trail race that is true to our sport. Runners will enjoy the rustic nature of the trail with like-minded souls who love to get dirty in the woods! Our grassroots event has a low impact on the environment, not necessarily your body!
Run on the Wine, Modoc, and Turkey Creek trail with all the other muddy runners on the first Sunday of February at 7:30 am. It will be an out-and-back on a beautifully wooded single track, with the sound of the creek whispering over your shoulder for much of the race. Runners will navigate rocks, roots, bridges, logs, and water crossings to show off their agility skills. The rolling terrain has some dips and rises, but those who love to run will find few climbs to interrupt their pace and will enjoy what this fast course can offer.
The 40-mile, 50K and the long leg of the 40-mile relay participants will have the most challenging of the courses. Aid will be plentiful to all distances.
The course will be marked at specific turns with signage since this race is on 99% single-track trails with almost no side trails. No pacers or crews are allowed, but your friends and family will have opportunities to cheer you on at the Start/Finish area. A generous 11-hour cut-off will allow all runners to enjoy their day on the trail. You may change to a lower mileage event 24 hours before the start of the race.

Aid Stations
Rut Rogue has 3-5 aid stations depending on what event you are running. Aid stations are spread apart every 5-7 miles.
At each aid station, there will be a team of volunteers recording your bib numbers as you enter the aid stations. Please be sure to call out your bib number to them so you can be accounted for. Please make sure your bib is visible somewhere on the front of your body.
The Rut Rogue is a CUP-FREE event, so be sure to bring your own handheld hydration bottle. Most aid stations will have water, TailWind, Coke, Mountain Dew, and ginger ale to drink. There will be an assortment of snacks, fruit, chips, salt and potatoes, and PB&J sandwiches.
Drop Bags
If you are a 40 miler and you want to make use of a drop bag, you will leave your drop bag at check-in on race morning prior to the start of the race. Please have your name and bib number on the drop bag. Drop bags will be taken to Aid Station 4 & 6 which is at miles 22 & 34.
Parking
Parking is somewhat limited at the race start/finish area. Please consider carpooling if you can and parking close enough to vehicles next to you to allow the maximum amount of cars in the lot. There will be parking directors leading you to available parking locations. The parking and start/finish area is located down a rugged gravel road, leave your low-rider car at home. Everyone will be parking in a large field located less than 100 yards from the start / finish area.
Trail Traffic and Safety
Please note that Rut Rogue is held on public use trails and you will more than likely encounter others enjoying the trails on race day. If you do encounter mountain bikers, please step off the side of the trail to allow them to pass since it is easier for the runner to step aside than it is for them to dismount. Generally, the mountain biking community stays away on race day but there is always the possibility to encounter a few riders or hikers enjoying their day.
The Wine Creek, Turkey Creek and Modoc trails are remote and, aside from a few access points, are hard to get into if someone gets injured or needs assistance. Each trail is marked every half mile with a mileage marker. If you encounter an injured runner try to assess the situation and if applicable, stay with the runner and send another runner to seek help from the nearest aid station/volunteer. If you carry your cell phone while running, please feel free to call me directly in the event of an emergency. Please take note of the closest trail distance marker and which trail you are on. In the event of sudden severe weather, please consider all options and only continue on when it is safe to do so.
