Curfew Update

California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a curfew today (11/19) for all counties in the purple tier -- including San Diego -- due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.In a tweet, Newsom said nonessential work and gatherings must stop from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. in counties in the most restrictive purple tier, starts from Saturday 11/21 and last for a month.

To abide by the new curfew order,
1). There will be NO support on the location of AS4 and AS5.
2). 100 miler can drop down to 50 miler. It's encouraged if you can not finish it before the curfew time. Just stop your GPS watch on AS2 and submit your time from start line to AS2. I'll switch your distance.


On the location of AS4, there are two gas stations opened 24hrs. Please make sure you refill on those two gas stations enough foods and drinks for the last 25 miles. There are some restaurants and gas stations open day time but closed on night on the last 25 miles. Please check the course map for their locations.

Maps Updated

I updated all the course maps and files. Beside some minor changes, I added some refilling locations such as water fountains, vending machines, restaurants etc. Please download the course maps or files of your choice again.

New Distance Added

You asked for it you got it. There is a brand new 50 miler - 2nd Half Clockwise now. As the name implies, it starts from the same start line with 100 miler and original (first half) 50 miler, but running in opposite direction, i.e. clockwise. Please note the 2nd half course has more trails hence far less places for refilling the water. Also for logistically reason, there will be no unofficial support along the course. See the training runs strava records for some locations of refilling places.

It did not go as planned. We underestimated the hot weather so most of us out of water and stopped short. My actually ran was from AS1 (mile 31) to mile 57, 4 mi before planned destination of the AS3 Garden Rd Park.

Virtual Race Description

Please read this entire page carefully, since this is not your typical virtual race which you can run it anywhere anytime, it’s actually much harder than most of the regular ultra races. You’re warned!

Social Distance and No Gathering
Make sure you are running by yourself and abide the rules of social distancing, facial covering, etc according to the current California and San Diego Health Order.

Duration of virtual race
10 days from Friday 11/20 to Sunday 11/29. You can run it any day during 10 days period by following the course and at one go.

Course
You need to follow the course. See Course Maps and Files for details. There will be no course mark. You will need to navigate and stay on course by yourself.

One Effort
You need to run it at one go.

Cutoff
No cutoff for this virtual race as long as it’s one effort. But to be eligible for UTMB points, you'll need to finish in 30 hrs for 100 mi or 15 hrs for 50 mi. You can switch the distance between 100 and 50 mile before 11/11.

No Official Support
You'll need your family member to support you. That being said, I'll have some friends to stay on the 3 locations (see the Suggested Family Crew/Aid Stations (AS) for location) on 11/21 to provide some unofficial support. It’s basically just one car provide rolling support/pop up, loosely based on the pace of starting 5AM 11/21 and finish 5AM 11/22 (24hrs target time). The approximate time for each location are:
AS1, 10AM - 12PM, 11/21
AS2, 2PM - 4PM, 11/21 50 Mi finish point
AS3, 5PM - 7PM, 11/21
AS4, NO SUPPORT
AS5, NO SUPPORT

Deadline for Registration, Cancelation, Transfer and Switch distances
11:11PM, 11/11. This is the deadline for the registration, cancelation, transfer and switch distances, so make up your mind before that time. If you cancel it before that time, you’ll get a full amount of your registration (minus any ultrasignup fee) for the credit of the future Best of San Diego Trail Runs race. You do all of those by simply login into ultrasignup.com page, it's Account Info, Registration History, Edit.

Result Submit
Upon the finish, click the Record Results button above and submit your result, please also provide a proof url. Make sure that url is viewable by me, which usually means that activity need to be viewable by Everyone. The deadline of result summit is 11:59PM, 11/29/2020. If you miss it you will not have a result. I don’t report DNS or DNF.
