7/31 update: Chupacabra 10K & Half Marathon Race Day Logistics & Rules for Happy & Healthy Participants
Setting up an event in these unprecedented times comes with a lot of responsibility that we are privileged to have. We love creating a fun experience for our participants, and we ensure you this will still be fun! We just have to take some extra precautions. Please understand that we are operating within guidelines, and rules must be followed with no exceptions. We wanted to outline our added safety procedures and rules so that all participants can responsibly run and enjoy this race!
All participants will be required to sign an additional waiver who participate on August 22nd, 2020. This ensures that you have not been sick, have not been around other sick people or been to any places with large outbreaks in the last 14 days. If you are sick you must stay home and we will mail you your packets and you can participate virtually if your doctor agrees it is okay. Because of this step, there will be no packet pickup for other people. Everyone who is participating must sign the waiver at packet pickup and parents must sign for minors!
Portable bathrooms and park bathrooms with available hand sanitizer
Please stay in vehicles unless you are warming up, using the restroom or picking up your packet. We know you miss your friend Karen and you want to chat, but she is following the rules too.
No warming up on the race course. We are trying to keep our paths as congestion free as possible.
All volunteers will be required to wear a mask or face covering for your safety and comfort.
Our packet pick up will be spaced out, please come within your specified window if you are doing race day pick up.
Chip timed start. If you are warming up, please do not pass the starting line, this can mess with our timing system and you don’t want an inaccurate time.
Waves assigned by race distance (half marathon waves will start first due to heat, 10K will start afterwards) and will also be based on registration order. Please do not ask to change your wave. The only exceptions are for immediate family or individuals living in the same household)
There will be waves of 25 spaced out in 5 minute blocks.
Aid stations will be contactless and bottled water will be provided. Please still bring your own hand bottle or hydration vest because this is Alabama and it is WARM. HALF MARATHONERS, you will be required to have a hand held bottle or pack with you during the race. Please, no exceptions. Last year several people had heat related issues and in the current Covid environment we need to minimize as much contact between other runners, and our EMT trying to help you if you are dehydrated and not feeling well.
When passing runners, please announce yourself so they are aware you are going around. Please pass people respectfully. We believe it is important to be fast and nice! Head phones runners, please only wear 1 headphone so you can hear others calling out behind you to pass.
Finishing / Results
When finishing, please do not congregate in big groups.
Age group awards (virtual participants excluded) will be available for pick up at Fleet Feet the following Wednesday.
Results will be emailed out. We will not print out race results to avoid gathering in groups. The official results won’t even be known until after the last wave and we will email these out to the participants.
Please do not congregate around the timing tent and ask for your time. We know most of you wear a watch as it is, and the official results will be emailed out later.
We ask that you efficiently finish your race, hydrate and return home so that we continue having events and maybe soon get to return back to our post-race party. Until then, air-fives around and a smile and wave!
