THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Thank you for your patience as we have monitored the spread of COVID-19. This is a frustrating time for all of us as we have seen numerous races canceled and it makes you wonder when we will get back to normal.
Three weeks ago, when we posted our last update, we started to see an upward trend in the number of COVID cases in North Texas. In a short time, this trend has grown aggressively resulting in Governor Abbott rolling back parts of the Texas reopening plan. There is too much uncertainty with how the virus is spreading to move forward with the remainder of our 2020 race season.
With deep regret, now is the time to make the call and cancel this year’s events. Our expenses have been minimal to date and allows me to provide a full refund to anyone registered for Six-O or Lake Murray.
There are several factors that went into this decision:
- Three of the four remaining races are in areas with much lower spread than the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. I don’t feel it’s responsible to encourage large numbers of people to travel to these communities and potentially seed an outbreak there. I certainly don’t want that on my conscience.
- Many of our runners and volunteers are older and I don’t want to put them at risk. I also don’t want to be responsible for someone catching this at our event and passing it on to a loved one who is at higher risk.
- Much is still unknown about this virus. Many professional athletes and sports doctors are concerned about the long term health impacts.
- Even with waivers, liability protection from COVID is a grey area. This has been the subject of debate in Congress.
- Registration numbers will be lower due to fewer people registering or imposed capacity limits. Either situation makes it difficult to produce an event without losing money.
- This is a rapidly evolving situation and permits can be revoked up to the date of the event after many or all expenses have been incurred.
- Anyone registered for Lake Murray or Six-O will receive a full refund (minus transaction fees paid to UltraSignup). Please give us time to process the refunds. It might take a few weeks to get this sorted out in full.
- All race credits from the cancellation of the 2020 Grasslands Trail run will be valid for the 2021 or 2022 season. We don’t want anyone to feel forced to return to a large scale event before they are personally comfortable doing so.
- We are evaluating a low cost virtual run for the 2020 Rockledge Rumble to provide continuity for the race. We expect to make a final decision soon and will provide details by August 1.
- I monitor the COVID numbers daily and will continue to do so for the duration of the pandemic. If I see the numbers come down to a level where we would feel comfortable holding any of the events, we will revisit the decision for our later races.
I’m optimistic about the prospects of a vaccine being available next year that will help us get back to normal. There are a lot of very smart people in the biotech industry working on this. Over the next couple of months, we’ll confirm dates for the 2021 race season. We will be back!

Come join us for the second running of the Six-O Trail run. The Six-O Trail Run will be held at it’s namesake the Six-O Ranch in Cleburne, Texas. The Six-O Ranch is a 1600-acre working cattle ranch located on the edge of the Texas Hill Country that features over 20 miles of trail. The course will consist of a combination of single track, dirt ranch roads, and a few crossings over wide-open fields. We’ll even throw in a couple of water crossings along the way.
Distances include a 50K, Marathon, Half-Marathon and 6 mile.
All runners will get:
--A beautiful and fun day on the trails
--Tri-blend, soft race shirt that our runners love
--Finisher's medal for each distance
--Well-stocked aid stations
Same-day registration is available but registering early helps us plan better. We will do our best to forecast the shirts, medals and post-race meals we need for all of our runners.

Packet pick up and same day registration will be open until 8:15 a.m. However, we recommend that all participants arrive early to allow time to pick up your packet, race chip, and get ready for your race.
Post-race Meal--we'll begin serving lunch at around 11 a.m.
Cutoff for all races: 4:30 pm
Planning Your Race
This is a cupless race. Aid stations will provide water, Tailwind and more (see below) but you must carry a hydration system to carry water on the course. That could include handheld water bottles, running vest or other choices. If you're unsure, visit REI or your local running store.
In addition to water and Tailwind, aid stations will have soda. If you plan to drink soda, you will need a collapsible, reusable cup. We will sell them before the race for $3 each. These silicone cups are completely collapsible and reusable. We recommend using these at our races and other races to reduce the amount of single-use plastic used.
In addition to water, Tailwind, and soda, we will have SaltStick (electrolytes) and many of your favorite aid station foods including bananas and other fruit, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, potato chips, Oreos, fig cookies, pickles, salted potatoes and more.
Aid Station Locations
50K runners--will run the main course two times. (This is the same loop as the marathon race but will have some sections added to gain the additional mileage.) Runners will hit aid stations three times on each loop, plus the start/finish. That gives 50K runners access to aid stations 7 times throughout the race. The longest distance between aid stations is approximately 5 miles. That is from the start/finish to the first aid station.
Marathon and Half Marathon runners--They run the main loop (marathon--2x; half marathon-1x) and will hit three aid stations for each loop. The longest distance between aid stations is just over 4 miles from the start/finish to the first aid station.
6-mile runners: Will run a different loop and will hit one main aid station and one aid station with water only.
50K and Marathon runners may leave a Drop Bag at the Start/Finish aid station. Remember to pick up your drop bag at the end of the race.
The Six-O Trail Run is held on the Six-O Ranch, 11404 FM 200, Cleburne, TX 76033.
We are all guests of the ranch and we ask everyone to treat the property with respect. Because this is a working ranch, dogs are not allowed.
Tent/RV camping will be available Friday Night only for $10 per site. Please note this is primitive camping (i.e. no electric, water or sewer) so plan accordingly. Portable toilets for the race will be delivered on Friday and will be available for campers to use. Camping fees will be collected by Blaze Trails on behalf of the ranch owners. All proceeds from camping/parking go directly to the owners of the ranch.
Parking on race day will be $5, collected by Blaze Trails on behalf of the ranch owners. We encourage car pooling.
Runners can get full race credit one month prior to the event. They can earn 50% race credit between one month and two weeks prior. In the final two weeks, there are no refunds/race credit/ or transfers allowed. No exceptions.
