Race Information

FARVets is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting animal welfare by helping people and animals domestically and abroad through spay/neuter, public education, wellness and surgical training of veterinarians. Currently all of our programs have been suspended due to COVID-19. We suspect that like us, many others may be struggling with concerns for the growing global situation and feeling limited in our capacity to help. Although it’s minor in light of the global crisis around us, races are cancelled, parks are closing and our ability to train and race has been limited in many ways.

At FARVets our goal is to use creativity and innovation in places and situations with limited resources to provide veterinary care to animals in need. Likewise in this situation we hope you’ll join us in applying some creativity and flexibility to the realm of ultrarunning.

The FARVets COVirtual Race Series consists of a COVirtual Half (9.5 miles), COVirtual Full (19 miles) and COVirtual Ultra (38 miles). We are also including a 1.9 mile COVirtual Hike option for those who would prefer a shorter distance. Just sign up for your distance of choice, run the miles anytime and anywhere during between April 4 and May 4 and post pictures or a map of your run on our Facebook group (FARVets COVirtual Race Series Group) to inspire others. Prizes will be awarded for creativity and most outstanding social distancing, including an effort to stay close to home. All participants will receive custom FARVets medals which will be mailed May 15.

All proceeds from the event will be equally distributed between the following four organizations:

Project Resilience Ulster County: A community fund and local food distribution program to support residents impacted by COVID-19. The organization works with NGOs and municipalities to deliver meals to local distribution centers. The program helps residents in need and simultaneously provides support to small businesses who provide the food. Many residents in need throughout Ulster County are receiving meals delivered to their homes via TCAT through this program.

Dryden Kitchen Cupboard: The Dryden Kitchen Cupboard provides food assistance to individuals and families who live in the town of Dryden, NY. The purpose of the Dryden Kitchen Cupboard is to assist food insecure individuals and families who live in the town of Dryden, NY.

Fundacion Perros sin Nombre: This is a not-for-profit foundation in Tela, Honduras promoting the welfare of street dogs, through feeding programs, population control and preventive medicine. FARVets spay/neuters and rabies vaccinates street dogs for them multiple times per year. Currently the program is struggling to pay for food for the animals in their care due to the COVID-19 crisis.
