2023 Course Change

Recently, the Georgia State Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites Division made changes to the concession fee structure that requires 15% of our gross revenue. This change makes it no longer feasible for us to host Cruel Jewel at Vogel State Park, or any other park in the Georgia State Park system.

Having said that, there will be some significant changes, but all for the better in true Dumass fashion. The very first year of Cruel Jewel 100 was in 2013, and the starting line was at Camp Morganton. 2023 is our 10th year anniversary and we’re goin’ back to our roots.

While we are working out the details, here is what we can tell you with 100% certainty:
Cruel Jewel 50 will start at the Reece Farm and Heritage Center (8552 Gainesville Hwy Blairsville, GA 30512) and the shuttle will now pick runners up at Camp Morganton.

You get to experience ALL of the Duncan Ridge in one dragon-heart-sized punch in the throat at the beginning, instead of the end. Yay!

We submitted everything to UTMB and expect no issues with our index points there

In a perfect world, our first year taking on these races would have been a carbon copy of previous years. Easy. Simple. But as ultra runners, one thing we have learned to do is expect and accept change, know that things will never always go according to plan, and to adapt. We’re committed to constantly improving all of our events and we are excited for 2023 and all that we hope to bring to the community, even amongst all the change and chaos. We work hard to put the Cruel in Cruel Jewel.

About the event

We understand that not everyone is not ready for the CRUEL JEWEL 100, so for these runners we are offering a 56 mile option.

Cruel Jewel 50 is a point to point 56 mile trail race deep with in the beautiful Chattahoochee National Forest of the North Georgia Mountains. It consists of 50 miles of trails, 6 miles of mountain roads, and has 10 aid stations. Along your journey from Blue Ridge to Vogel State Park you will experience tough, and sometimes technical, single track trails, ferns and old growth poplar trees, steep ascents and even steeper descents, an historic steel bridge spanning the Toccoa River, the Dragon's Spine, lush green hardwood forests, rocks, roots and ridge lines ... all of which will be passed before you reach your final destination. And as a bonus we have thrown in over 17,000 feet of gain and 17,000 feet of loss just to keep you smiling !!
