SGFMC 5K TURKEY TROT

Welcome to the 41st St. Giles Family Mass Community 5k Turkey Trot.

This is a family event that has been going on for over forty years. You can walk, skip or run to the finish line and still be home for Thanksgiving by noon.

Race registration will be available online until Tuesday, November 21st @11:59pm.
Online ordering for t-shirts will close Saturday, November 19th.

Pre- ordered t-shirts and race bibs for registered runners/walkers will be available for pick up on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm and on race day from 8:00am - 9:00am at the St. Giles Gym, 1034 Linden, Oak Park, Illinois.

RACE DAY REGISTRATION IS $25 CASH ONLY & CLOSES PROMPTLY AT 9:00AM
Tee-shirt cost will also increase to $25, cash only.

WEDNESDAY - 22nd
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM - Early bib pickup. Get your shirt & bib early so you can sleep in and avoid race day lines. Pickup is located at the St. Giles gym entrance.

THURSDAY- 23rd - RACE DAY
9:00 AM - Registration closes
9:15 AM - Bib pickup closes
9:20 AM - Race briefing
9:30 AM - Race Start

Please plan to dress warm when you show up race morning. Access to the indoor spaces will be for bathroom use and volunteers only. We will have a designated drop bag area outdoors for your extra layers while you run.

THE START

The START is at the front of St. Giles Gym, 1034 Linden Street just south of Greenfield in Oak Park, Illinois.

The Trot will begin at 9:30 AM.

ENTRANCE POLICY FOR TRANSGENDER ATHLETES

We will accept each entrant’s declared gender at face value, and no additional supporting evidence is required. Athletes may register as the gender they identify with.

THE 5k COURSE

The course is approximately 5 kilometers or 3.1 miles. It is not certified (unless the odometer of a classic 67 Chevy is acceptable.) We line up in the alley, and step off at 9:30 AM. The route is north to Greenfield, west to Marion, north to Le Moyne, east to Rossell, south to Greenfield, west to Elmwood, south to Berkshire, east to Ridgeland, then south, on the sidewalk, to Division, then west, still on the sidewalk, to Euclid, north to Berkshire, then east to Linden, and finally a quick kick, limp or stroll, north, on the sidewalk, to the finish line at St. Giles Gym, where we started. RULES FOR RUNNERS/WALKERS

1. Don’t take shortcuts. Course will be marked with orange paint/arrows.
2. Be careful at intersections. We will try to monitor traffic, but we can’t guarantee control at any corners.
3. Please! Runners and walkers only. Bicycles, skaters, skiers, strollers etc. are on their own and should line up to the rear of the serious runners.
4. If you're not feeling well - please stay home. Covid and flu are still out there.
5. Be careful! Have fun! Be Thankful!

AWARDS

AWARDS: To simplify this event for the volunteers there will not be an official awards ceremony. Awards will be handed out at the finish line. Overall - each male and female 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishers will receive a very heavy, expensive looking medal commemorating their finish in the event. Each 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner in each age division, male and female, will win a ribbon commemorating their age division place. All are expected to wear their awards at Thanksgiving Dinner so they can impress the relatives.
All finishers are to check-in at the Awards Table with their finishing time as soon as they finish the race. If
you finish in the top three overall or in your age class, you will receive an award, must present your bibb number.

All proceeds from your $15 race registration and all additional donations will support the following:

Half of the proceeds will go to funding "Companions Journeying Together" ... CJT programs strive to impact the emotional, spiritual, and social lives of the incarcerated and their families. CJT seek out opportunities to reach incarcerated women and men through a variety of programs designed to build healthy relationships and foster positive family communication. AND
Half of the proceeds will go to the Migrant Ministry at the Rectory site at the Saint Catherine/St. Lucy property - A twice a week program for migrants living at the 15th District Police Station, to shower, have a meal and receive clean clothes.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ

1. Pickup your race bibs early on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, between 4:00 & 6:00pm, from the St. Giles Gym, 1034 Linden, Oak Park, Illinois. Race Day distribution will close at 9:00AM. Pick up Wednesday and reduce the chaos.
2.Online registration will close on Tuesday, November 21st at 11:59PM. Race day in person registration will increase to $25 for adults and children. Cash only. Tee-shirt cost will also increase to $25, cash only. Hint - sign-up early.
