Overview
The BUTS Bearly Ultra is designed to be a welcoming trail race for everyone. First trail race? First Ultra? Seasoned runner looking for a new PR? This race is for you! From easily runnable old rail beds to twisty root filled single track, you will get a taste of everything our Alabama trails have to offer. Ike will test your vert skills while the BMRR trails will let you crank out your speed. Take a breath and enjoy the view at Grace's Gap Overlook and then let your imagination tell you what lives in the old mine shafts. Resist the urge to sit in the overly inviting chairs and swings along the way. There will be one aid station that you will pass multiple times, and it is always guaranteed to be a good time as well as provide ample refreshments. When you finally reach the finish line, you will be greeted with hot food, cold drinks, and a unique finisher medal to remember your Red Mountain adventure.
***REMINDER THAT THIS IS A CUPLESS EVENT. (BYOVessel)
Supporting our local trail systems~it's what we do.
As always a portion of your entry fee will be donated back to the park! BUTS values the Birmingham area trails, and we hope you do too. One of our purposes is to help maintain, upkeep, and create new trails so you and your loved ones may enjoy them. Red Mountain Park has been a wonderful addition to our park family! They are assiduous collaborators, and we want to honor and support the park's future goals. If you aren't a Member of Red Mountain, you definitely should join! Membership is one of the most important ways to support this amazing gem!
Course Description
The 27 Mile course is two loops of the 13.5 mile course. Including the Start/Finish, there will be two fully supplied and manned aid stations along the 13.5 mile route. Past year's elevation chart and course map can be found in the photos. The course may change a little depending on necessity. However, the flavor of the race won't change!

Course Cutoffs
27 mile: 8.5 hours (4:30pm) and 13.5 mile: 7.5 hours (4:30pm). The park closes at 5:00pm in the winter. That gets you, and us, out before dark. If you would like to hike the entire 13.5 miles, you could do so in plenty of time. If you would like to do the 27 mile, but think you may need just a little longer, contact the RD to discuss an early start.
