About the races
This two-day event features uphill climbs and downhill sprints and tests both ability and stamina of burly mountaineers from all over the country.
Our Vertical race is Friday, start time 4 pm. There are two divisions, recreational and elite, and the race is open to participants 12 yrs and up. The course is a 520 meter elevation climb of 30-60 minutes and finishes at mountain top. No helmets or avalanche gear required but a headlamp is required for the descent.This is a fun run and a great introduction to the sport. We encourage young and first time racers to enter the Vertical race!
There is a mandatory race meeting for Saturday racers at 5:30 pm Friday, at the Brundage Mountain base lodge. Please print, review, and sign the Northwest Passage Race Waiver and bring with you for this meeting.
Saturday at 7:30 am sharp,the Northwest Passage individual race will begin. The Recreational Division has 4 climbs with a combined ascent of 3860′ and is 7.3 miles overall. The Elite Division has a total of 6 climbs with 6400′ of ascent and is 12.9 miles overall.
The race features captivating views of Idaho’s Salmon river mountains, Seven Devils mountains, and Oregon’s Wallowas. Carrying avalanche gear, wearing an approved ski or climbing helmet, and adequate harsh weather gear is required. You must race both events (the vertical and individual races) to earn USSMA points.
Join us downtown Saturday night at the Backcountry Film Festival for a post race BBQ and awards ceremony. The Northwest Passage will be partnering with the McCall Winter Sports Club and the Winter Wildlands Alliance for this fun celebration of backcountry winter sports.
