Race Course Description

The Chena River to Ridge race will take racers around maintained snowmachine trails in the Chena River State Recreation Area east of Fairbanks. It is a challenging race course with big ascents, fast downhills, blind turns, and outstanding views as the trail climbs high above the valley floor. Racers can either travel by ski, bike, or on foot. The short course will follow an approx 26ish mile loop and the longer course will include a second loop that is approx 26ish miles long for an approx total of 55ish miles. Each loop will have an aid station at the approximate halfway point with hot/cold beverages and sweet/savory snacks. NEW THIS YEAR: We are happy to announce an additional aid station for the 26 mile loop located at Colorado Creek Cabin. After the race, come hang out and celebrate post race vibes while enjoying hot food, beer, and beverages with fellow racers and the community that makes Chena River to Ridge possible! Come out and join us on Saturday, March 2, 2024!

Notes

Trail conditions can vary substantially from year to year and every effort is made to make them passable for fat bike, foot, and ski travel on race day. Nevertheless, be prepared for soft trail conditions if we get a fresh snowfall the week of the event. The grades on the trail rarely exceed 10 percent, so the entire course is ride-able for cyclists. In most years, fat bikers have encountered at least short stretches of hike-a-biking, and in rare years, runners have benefited from carry lightweight snowshoes (like in 2018 and 2020). The trail is relatively narrow and classic skis are ideal for this racecourse, although there are some short sections where the trail widens up enough for skate skiing.
A fee of $100 will be billed to the racer in the event of an evacuation. A check will need to be mailed to the race director within 90 days of the end of the race, or the racer will not be allowed to enter the race again.

A fee of $100 will be billed to any racer who scratches and self-evacuates without notifying the Race Marshall (HQ).
Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable.
