New Virtual Race for 2020
Unfortunately, we will not be allowed to host these events this year. The Covid19 Global Pandemic has put a strain on every race and sports gathering for 2020. We've decided to host virtual events in October. We know how hard you train and we know what an awesome accomplishment it is to run these distances. Therefore, we want to encourage and reward you for all your hard work. If you already entered the events, we are communicating with you. We welcome new racers on the virtual race entry plan. Virtual events will work like this:
Run the race distance between October 1-5, 2020 and submit proof of results to Stevebaker864@gmail.com by 11:59pm EST on October 6, 2020. You may choose any course you wish to run, as long as all kilometers are run/walked/crawled contiguously in the same virtual event. There is no time limit for this virtual event. We will tally results and record them on Ultrasignup.com for the 2020 events. Finishers will receive a finisher award either in person or by mail. This virtual event is NOT a USATF Championship event for 2020. For more information, please contact Steve Baker at stevebaker864@gmail.com.
IDEAL FIRST TIME ULTRA!
We call this an urban ultra run (meaning lots of pavement - some easy trails), because a good portion of this course (~66%) is run on the paved GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail. You can run this ultra inside the beautiful Lake Conestee Nature Park, with stunning views of forests, grasslands, lakes and rivers. There are rolling hills on the course, but overall, it's pretty flat for elevation (320ft/10k). Because this is now a virtual event, we will not have support out on the October 3 weekend. You are permitted to run the virtual race at Conestee Park, but you are not required to do so. This is a wonderful course for first time ultra participants.
AWARDS: Finisher awards will be mailed to runners who complete the virtual requirements. Every registered runner (USATF members and non-members) will receive a special finisher award and will be placed in the overall results.
PHILOSOPHY: Swamp Rabbit Urban Ultra is the ideal first ultra race. Most ultra runs are on technical trails, involve running at night, perhaps getting lost, maybe falling down a few times and usually require that you travel a fair distance to participate. The Swamp Rabbit Urban Ultra removes most of those issues, but will still test you past anything you have ever done in a regular marathon. The race distances are 50 Km/31 miles and 30 Km/18.85 miles.
