Get Your Butt Kicked at Route 66
This timed 6 hour race takes place in Route 66 State Park located just east of Eureka, MO. The park is accessed from I-44 exit 265 (exit is for east bound traffic only). West bound traffic can do a U-turn by taking exit 264.
The course is a measured 2.425 mile loop through the wooded northwest corner of Route 66 State Park. The course is a wide path consisting of thin pavement, chip n seal and some fine gravel. Although the loop is flat and fast, the temperature in July must be considered an overriding factor by each runner.
Start/finish area is at the Forest Shelter which has adequate parking around it. The Forest Shelter is the main aid station and will have Ultra-Food (County/State restrictions pending).
Race starts at 6 pm and ends at midnight. Darkness comes around 8:30 pm so runners will need some kind of running light for the second half of the race.
This race is brought to you by the Saint Louis Ultrarunners Group
(SLUG members receive a $10 discount on race registration. Click here for more details.)
Mid-summer Race
This event is held in the middle of summer when the temperature and humidity can be very high. Participants need to be acclimated to hot running conditions and maintain proper hydration throughout the event.
Course and distance
Runners start with the long loop course, which is 2.425 miles around and run it as many times as they can before the 6 hours are up. Only completed loops count. At some point each runner decides there is not enough time to complete another long loop and he/she starts running the short loop course which is .333 miles around. Again, only completed short loops count. At the end of 6 hours, the number of long loops completed x 2.425 miles plus the number of short loops completed x .333 miles is the total distance for each runner.
There are 2 unisex flush toilet bathrooms on the course for use. They get dark, so please remember a headlamp.
Cupless from here on out
In an effort to reduce our strain on the environment, we will again be going cupless. All participants will receive a reusable plastic SLUGs cup. Additional cups can be purchased at the event.
Awards
All finishers will receive a finishers medal. Plaques will be given to the first place overall male and female winners as well as the male and female winners in each of the following Age Groups: Masters (40+).
All Runners will receive a pair of Custom GYBK Sock Guy socks.
Why Race GYBK with the SLUGs?
This race started as a fat ass event in order to just bring people together and run. We try to keep it low-key/old school. No frills, nothing over the top, just run around in circles all night.
The SLUGs aren't after your money either. Our race proceeds help sponsor multiple charity runs, assist with coordination of trail maintenance, host aid stations at various running events throughout the Midwest and much more. Come join in the fun.
