About the Osprey

The Osprey Trail Run offers a unique experience inside the 94-acre George Lestrange preserve in Fort Pierce, Florida. The race gets its name from birds of prey known as ospreys (Pandion haliaetus) which are commonly seen fishing over the lake in the preserve.

This loop-based race takes runners around a beautiful lake, along Ten Mile Creek, and through various terrain that includes technical single track winding trails, hard packed gravel, beautiful oak lined hammocks, oxbows, hills and low lying wetlands. Net proceeds from the race are donated to St. Lucie County's Oxbow Eco Center to support their environmental education programs.

About George LeStrange

Located just off Selvitz Road in Fort Pierce, George LeStrange Preserve is part of St. Lucie County's nature preserve program. The preserve is managed by the St. Lucie County Department of Environmental Resources making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

One of the many highlights of the George LeStrange Preserve is the diverse plant and animal life. The preserve is home to numerous gopher tortoises (Gopherus polyphemus), a state listed species that you will most likely encounter during your race. You can also see a variety of bird species, such as egrets, herons, and of course the osprey.

In addition, George LeStrange Preserve is also a great spot for eco-tourism. The preserve is crisscrossed with numerous nature trails that allow visitors to explore the various habitats and ecosystems that make up the preserve. The trails offer stunning views of the wetlands, where visitors can observe the unique and delicate flora and fauna that make up this remarkable ecosystem.

For those who enjoy water activities, George LeStrange Preserve offers a range of opportunities, including kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. This 94-acre site includes a one-mile hiking trail surrounding the 37-acre "catch-and-release" lake. A canoe launch provides access to the lake. (Electric motors and paddles only).
