Overview
This early season classic returns for another year! Since 2001, the Hagg Mud 50K/25K has challenged runners who like getting muddy! Starting at Henry Hagg Lake in Scoggins Valley Park, near Gaston, Oregon, you will run a fantastic course around the lake and encounter lovely views, excellent trails, and a group of like-minded folks who still enjoy running in February. In 2025, both the 25k and 50k will be run entirely on Saturday, with a staggered start, so pick between one loop or two! Do you have what it takes…and maybe a couple extra pairs of running shoes? Then sign up today!
Acknowledgments
The Hagg Mud 50K/25K acknowledges that these races occur on the ancestral lands of the Kalapuya, Clatskanie, and Atfalati, now part of the Confederated Tribes of the Grande Ronde.
General Information
Cupless Aid Stations
This event is CUPLESS. We will NOT provide paper cups at aid stations. Participants must bring their own handhelds, hydration packs, or reusable cups. Aid station workers will have pitchers to fill containers with water and electrolytes, and there will be rapid-fill spigots on most water jugs. Aid stations will include typical ultra fare: fruit, sweet and salty snacks, soda, gatorade and GU.
Prizes
The top three finishers of the 50k and 25k races in each category (female, male, non-binary) will receive a prize award. Those eligible for 5-, 10-, 15- and 20-year participation awards will also be honored. Please let us know during registration if this may apply to you. All finishers will receive custom Hagg Mud finisher socks and post-race celebration food/drinks.
Registration
Registration fee includes 3 well-stocked aid stations; post-race party with warm food and drinks; and all the mud you could wish for! Online registration will close on Thursday, February 13th, 2025, after which no discounts or vouchers can be applied. Day-of-race registration will be available in person via cashless payment.
Optional Purchases
We will be offering optional purchase of a short-sleeve lifestyle T-shirt and a beanie. During registration, please consider a donation to our beneficiary The Trail Mix Fund who is generously supporting diversity and access to trail running events.
Start Times and Cutoffs
The START/FINISH is located at the C-Ramp Recreation Area of Henry Hagg Lake in Scoggins Valley Park (Park Trail Map).
50K Race - Saturday, Feb 15, 2025: Check-in - 6:00 am | Start Time - 7:00 am
25K Race - Saturday, Feb 15, 2025: Check-in - 7:30 am | Start Time - 8:30 am
50K Cutoff Time: The cutoff for the first lap is noon. Any runner not through the start/finish line for their second lap will be unable to continue. You must be through the Dam Aid Station by 1:15 pm and through the Fenders Blue aid station by 3:00 pm This is a 17:10 minute average pace per mile.
25K Cutoff Time: The 25K cutoffs are the same as the 50k, but with a shorter course and later start time. You will have 7.5 hours to complete the 15.5 mile course, an average pace of 29:00 per mile.
50K Walker Policy: Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate walkers for the 50K races. We must enforce strict cutoffs that require an average pace of 17:10 per mile in the 50K. The generous time limit in the 25K is better suited to those who wish to hike. We recommend the 25K race for first-timers who are unsure of their pace!

Trail Mix Fund
At our running events, we strive to promote inclusivity and fairness for all participants. While it's true that running only requires a pair of shoes, we understand that barriers to entry exist. To address this, we're excited to partner with the Trail Mix Fund this year. We're specifically encouraging members of the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities to apply for race entry fee coverage at trailmixfund.org. The Trail Mix Fund also assists those with financial difficulties paying for race fees. We want to emphasize that everyone is welcome at our races, and we're here to answer any questions.
Gender, Inclusion and Fair Sport Policy
Goal: To create a fair, inclusive and affirming space for people of all genders, identities and experiences to participate in running and walking events, while also promoting fairness in award competitions.
During registration, all entrants can select their gender category for the race – male, female, or nonbinary. Each gender division will have its own results, podium and awards. To be eligible for prizes, participants should have registered in the gender division in which they qualify at the time of race registration.
Transgender Entrants
- Transgender men and athletes who have begun gender-affirming treatment that includes testosterone or androgens may compete in the male or nonbinary divisions.
- Transgender women who have undergone continuous, medically-supervised gender-affirming hormone treatment (testosterone suppression) for at least one year before the race may compete in the female category.
Policy Enforcement: The gender and category that a runner selects during registration will be accepted as is. As such, no harassment of individuals, nor challenges to a runner's gender or division, will be allowed or tolerated.
This policy will be updated as needed to ensure fair and inclusive practices for The Hagg Mud 50K/25K. Contact haggmud@oregonroadrunnersclub.org with questions or concerns.
Refund Policy
The Hagg Mud 50K/25K does not provide refunds or transfers if you cannot run on race day. Please know that your race fee is going to a nonprofit that helps further the sport of running in our community. If spots are available, you can transfer your registration from the 50K to the 25K race on UltraSignUp directly.
Pregnancy & Lactation
If you register for the race and become pregnant or just had a baby, and you do not feel you are in a position to participate, we are happy to defer your entry to the following year. Please inform us before February 1st if you wish to defer.
Please contact us if you need additional support or accommodations for lactation. We are a Trail Sisters-approved race, and will have menstrual supplies available at all aid stations.
50K Course Description
The 50K consists of a group start at C-Ramp parking area. We will be adding the loop around the Boat Ramp C parking lot at the start in order to spread out runners before hitting the trail. Runners enjoy a little over 3 miles of an out-and-back on a gravel road. This really helps runners to spread everyone out along the course. Please note that this is the biggest elevation change you will encounter for the entire race. When runners come back through the Sain Creek Pavilion, they'll have a chance to shed clothing and prepare for the trails. This is when the mud starts. You will run around Hagg Lake counter clockwise 2 times on the single track trail, pass by a 5 aid stations including the start finish, and eventually make your way back for the post race festivities. The aid stations are located past the Dam (at miles 8.8 and 22.3), Fenders Blue (miles 14.5 and 28) and the Start/Finish (mile 17.5 and 31).
25K Course Description
The 25K consists of a group start at C-Ramp parking area. You will run a large loop around the parking lot which helps spread everyone out before you hit a short section of single track. Runners will then go through the Sain Creek Pavilion and parking lot up Sain Creek Rd. Runners enjoy a little less than 1.5 miles of an out-and-back on a gravel road. Please note that this is the biggest elevation change you will encounter for the entire race. Runners will then come back through Sain Creek Pavillon to hit the trail. This is when the mud starts. You will run around Hagg Lake counter clockwise 1 time on the single track trail (with a few short road sections), pass by a 2 aid stations, and eventually make your way back for the post-race festivities. Aid stations are located at approximately 6.8 miles (1/2 mile after the Dam) and 12.5 miles (Fenders Blue aid station).
Hagg Mud Double
The Hagg Double is eliminated in 2025 due to both races being run on Saturday. However, you are welcome to return and run another loop on Sunday on your own! Maybe your volunteer RDs will even want to join you. Get extra muddy!
