Escape from Castle Craig!

This is a 5-person relay race.

The gist: we will publish six possible courses for this event. They will vary from 50 to 100 miles. On the morning of July 31st we will convene at Castle Craig and someone will be chosen at random to select the envelope that has the actual course we will run that day. There's a possibility that your team could be out there eight hours or for 24. There will be at least four aid station / crew access / exchange points. There will be a mix of rugged trail, smooth pavement, city streets, gravel, suburban wasteland, boggy swamp, grass fields, etc. and it will be very hot and humid. Your team's job is to make it to all the checkpoints faster than everyone else.

Escape FAQs

Q: I want to be on a relay team! How do I register?
A: First, find your teammates. Then designate a captain. They will pay for your team and then enter your e-mail addresses. You will then get an invite, and you should be all set.

Q: Do we need to memorize the various courses you will publish?
A: No, but it could help you. The course you will take will not be marked either, the only thing set in stone will be the various aid stations and relay points. Your team will figure out on the fly the best way to get between checkpoints.

Q: Yeah, how does that work?
A: Okay- here's the idea; you have a minivan or preferably a larger vehicle to not only crew your runner but shuttle the four other runners from points A to B to C and so on. The aid stations might be unmanned in the way of a mini-mart or convenience store. They might be an ultra aid station table with tent and chairs. They might be gallons of water tied to a tree. Or some random combination of all the aforementioned. You job is to figure out who is going to run each leg. Once a runner starts a leg, they must finish it in its entirety. DNFing a leg means DNFing the race. The RD is going to offer you zero help in the way of any logistics. Don't e-mail him or even comment "how do I do this?" when he posts it on Facebook. Just figure your shit out or find four other people that can figure this shit out.

Swag and so forth

Yes, of course there's swag. A dope Gildan 50/50 hoody for all participants and then sick Ragged Cuts awards for all finishers. A portion of your entry fee will be donated to the Meriden YMCA.
