FARVets End of Winter Race

Anywhere, Earth

50 K - Virtual, 25 K - Virtual, 5 K - Virtual

This Event Took Place Fri. Apr 30, 2021

Race Description

Welcome to the first FARVets Race Series event of 2021! The FARVets End of Winter Race is a way to remove speed from the race equation. Winter is a time when ice and snow can make running more of a slog in the northern parts of the world. FARVets has a solution: offer a virtual race where the goal is not to run the fastest, but to cover the most vertical gain. This could mean snowshoeing in the mountains or climbing repeats of the bleachers at a local high school. The goal is to cover as much vertical gain as possible within a certain distance. There can be large variations in the course terrain of virtual races, making comparison of result times difficult. The distances will be 5k, 25k and 50k and must be completed within 24 hours. The FARVets End of Winter race will run through April 19th. Run to get as much vert as you can, or complete the distance without tracking vertical gain, just for fun! If you would like a finishing result posted, please include a public link to a tracking program like Strava or a photo of your tracking device, treadmill, phone etc with total time, distance and vertical gain.
This is a fun fundraising event, and proceeds will benefit FARVets (FARVets.org) and our international partners in animal rescue and welfare. All finishers will receive a custom woodcut race medal by the Squatch Shop.
Registration Fee: $30
Check out our Facebook group and share photos of how you completed your vert and cheer on fellow runners! https://www.facebook.com/FARVets-COVIrtual-Race-Series-106380254360066

About FARVets

FARVets is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting animal welfare by helping people and animals domestically and abroad through spay/neuter, public education, wellness and surgical training of veterinarians. Currently all of our programs have been suspended due to COVID-19. We suspect that like us, many others may be struggling with concerns for the growing global situation and feeling limited in our capacity to help.

At FARVets our goal is to use creativity and innovation in places and situations with limited resources to provide veterinary care to animals in need. Likewise in this situation we hope you’ll join us in applying some creativity and flexibility to the realm of ultrarunning.
