LOCATION
Located at Wilson State Park (Hell Creek area) outside of Dorrance, KS. Start/finish is in the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail parking lot.
Course
The course starts with 3/4 of a mile on pavement where runners will have an opportunity to spread out before switching to single track. After that, it's 100% single track mountain bike trail. The trail runs beside beautiful Wilson Lake, the clearest lake in Kansas.

Each lap will start and end in the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail Parking Lot.

RULES
Rules for the Backyard Ultra
1) Course
. Loop or out and back
. Must be 4 miles 880 feet in length
. Metric equivalent 6.7056 kilometers
2) Starting Corral
. Measured to fit entire starting field
. Corral stays the same size thru out the event
. Participants must be in the starting corral at the bell
3) Starts
. Each loop starts precisely 1 hour after the last
. Warning must be given 3, 2, and 1 minutes prior to start
. All competitors must start at the bell (no late starts)
4) Loops
. Except for restrooms, competitor may not leave the course until each loop is completed
. No non-competitors on the course (including eliminated runners)
. No personal aid during a loop (common aid stations are allowed)
. Each loop must be completed within an hour to be counted… including the final lap.
. No artificial aids (including trekking poles)
. Slower runners must allow passes.
5) Timing
. Timing of the loops is optional
6) Winner/Results
. The winner is the last person to complete a loop
. All others are technically DNF
. Results of each runner in terms of distance covered are to be given.
. If no runner can complete one more loop than anyone else, there is no winner.
7) Cap
. Race must be open ended.
SWAG
All runners will receive a badass Eternal Damnation shirt.
All runners will also receive a custom Eternal Damnation finishers plaque with the distance they covered burnt in on site.
Additional freebie items will likely be given in swag bags.
A special award will be given to the last runner standing and the assist.
All runners who complete 24 hours (100-miles) receive a sick custom piece of swag with their name and mileage embroidered (will mail after the event).
Special awards for last male and female standing.
Winner receives free entry into Eternal Damnation 2025 and 4 fore 30 2024 if they choose to take advantage.
ADDITIONAL INFO
The start finish area will be an awesome environment – each runner can bring 2 crew members (highly recommended). There will plenty of space to set up a pop-up for you and your crew. If you are eliminated feel free to stick around, have a few beers (BYOB), and cheer other runners on!
You will essentially be self-sustained. We will bring water and Proxima C Endurance Fuel - the best ultra-fuel on the planet! No electricity will be available for crew or runners, so please plan accordingly.
We will assign each individuals finishing mileage in UltraSignup. A DNF will NOT go on your record, instead it will be the total miles accumulated. We want anyone and everyone to come out and see how many miles they can run on this challenging and beautiful course! Come set a PR! Come run a few laps and join in and cheer on who's left!
Our #1 goal for this race is to create an amazing trail experience where people can come out and find a new personal best. And afterwards, hang out and cheer others on as they attempt to do the same. Whether you hope to get 4.2 miles or 100 miles we want you to come out and join the fun.
We will abide by all backyard rules exactly.
It IS possible for ANY official Backyard race (like this one) to qualify participants for the World Championships in TN by exceptional performances earning "at-large" bids. All it takes is two great performances.
In the event that someone DOES earn a spot to the Backyard World Championships from our race – from an awesome at-large performance we will provide that individual with $500 in travel expenses for the Backyard World Championships!!! The money MUST be used for expenses related to the trip. We aren’t going to hand you $500 and then you not go. We will pay for flights, gas, hotels, etc. up to $500. We will announce every time one of the spots is filled, as well as who filled it, on our FB page.

Ultraverse Kansas Slam
THE ULTRAVERSE KANSAS SLAM
Eternal Damnation is the first of 3 required races for the Ultraverse Kansas Slam! More info on the slam can be found at https://ultraversesupplements.com/ultraverse-kansas-slam
To be eligible for the slam you must run in
1. Eternal Damnation at Hell Creek
2. The Sticks 6/12/24/48/72
3. The Hell Creek ½ & 50k
OR
The Hell Creek 20-mile, 100k, 100-mile, and Pure Hell 140
If you run in BOTH the races in #3 the race in which you accumulate the most miles will be the one that is counted. The male and female who accumulate the most miles between the 3 races win the slam. ALL slam finishers receive an Ultraverse Kansas Slam buckle. Since the races in #3 are the only races that you can technically DNF signing up the Hell Creek ½ or 50k in August will give you a “safety net” to register for a more aggressive mileage in September! Plus, what better way to train than to run a race on the course!
Deferral & Withdrawal
DEFERRAL/WITHDRAWAL INSTRUCTIONS
100% credit if canceled within 60 days of the race.
50% credit if canceled within 30 days of the race.
25% credit if canceled within 14 days of the race.
No credit is given for cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to the race. You’ll still be listed as DNS if notification is not given prior to 3 days before the race starts.
Please understand that there are no exceptions to these timelines. Please, don’t ask us to make one (we won’t).
•Races should deferred/withdrawn from BY THE RUNNER, rather than by messaging/emailing us.
• You will earn credit for ANY Ultraverse Supplements race, rather than being limited to the race in which you cancelled/deferred.
• The credit will be attached to your Ultrasignup account and will automatically apply the next time you register for an Ultraverse Supplements event. Note - sending an email to us does not initiate the cancellation of your registration. You must do this yourself for the credit to apply. You can do this by signing into Ultrasignup and then going to your registrations and clicking “edit”.
• Your credit appears in your registration history under "outstanding credits and coupons".
• Credit will be valid for one year, cannot be “gifted” to another runner, and you must use the same Ultrasignup account in which you originally registered for the race that you withdrew from.
