RACE MORNING
You will NOT need to check in before the race, but recommend you have a look at the clipboards so you know where you are to mark your loop as you come through.
If you are unfamiliar with the race setup, you will self-record all of your loops on the clipboards at the main tent. If you don’t know us yet, look for the green tent with the sign in sheets. Omar will be at the race start. Only laps completed during the 6 hours of the DBR will count toward the race awards and UltraSignup results.
There are several bathrooms along the course. There are several water fountains on the course. There are several bars along the course. Choose your fun.
The bathrooms may not be open until 7 or 7:30am, plan accordingly and stop on the way as needed.
COURSE
The infamous paper-towel-with-sharpie-sketch course map will be available at the start tent and there might be a few signs, but it is a simple loop around the waterfront sidewalks, heading out the pier, around the building at the end, and head back past the dog park. PLEASE be mindful of other pedestrians, runners, cyclists, trams etc, this is not a closed course and is a very popular area on the weekends. Check out Pacer Travel’s video course preview with tips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvGl2mdYNxs
Loop Distance is approx. 3.60 miles
ADDITIONAL INFO
To reiterate, this is a Fat Ass Race, which means you are self-supported for all nutritional, hydration needs, etc. There is plenty of space for tent canopies, chairs, coolers, etc and it is HIGHLY recommended you bring them. Please bring everything you will need. There are water fountains on the course and the pier if you need them. Temperatures will be in the 90s with high humidity (total temp around 100), so please bring ice, be aware of hydrating and not succumbing to heat issues.
Self recording: Each loop you will mark a clipboard at the Start/Finish with your name on it. If you want your miles in UltraSignup, mark your loops! If you win the whole race, or are the absolute last person to cross a loop finish at the 6 hour mark, you may get a prize.
Additionally, the race is free to run, and in conjunction with the Pinellas Trail Challenge we will be collecting donations for the Alzheimer’s Association- Florida Gulf Coast Chapter on site as well as organizing a PTC Team for their walk on October 5th.
POST RACE
And finally, post-race we will meet, half-assedly for some beer at Pinellas Ale Works at 1:30 or 2pm. They have a food truck on site, and a large back room if we have a big turn out.
Don’t forget to use an Uber, let’s have fun but be safe all day!
Description
6 hour Fat Ass event in downtown St. Petersburg, FL from 6:30am to 12:30pm. It takes place on a 3ish mi loop paved and concrete course winding through water front parks and the newly refurbished St. Pete Pier.
The conditions are hot and humid with average temperatures in the 90s and 90% humidity, normal Florida conditions for August. Don't be surprised with a rain shower or storm around midday.
Fat Ass events are low key and self supported. There are water fountains on the course, but carrying a handheld water bottle is highly recommended. There will be plenty of space at start/finish for you to bring a canopy, chairs, cooler, and whatever else you may need. The parking lot is right beside the setup area.
