About

Salt City Trail Racing, in cooperation with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation - Central Region, is pleased to announce the 10th running of English's Ridge Rumble, the first event of our 2027 race calendar. If this is your first trail race or visit at Green Lakes State Park, you are in for a treat! This race has become a very popular season opener for trail vets and newbies alike and will very likely sell out, so don't wait too long to inevitably, eventually decide to register.

The most visited of all New York State Parks for a reason, Green Lakes State Park outside of Syracuse, NY is named for the striking blue green color of its two meromictic lakes, a rare phenomenon in which the layers of water do not mix. English's Ridge Rumble traditionally takes place in mid-April, which means conditions could be snowy and cold or sunny and warm, so it's up to you to be prepared for whatever the CNY weather brings us on race day.

This course features many of the most iconic corners of the park, including The Serengeti, Round Lake, the Powerline Bypass, and Quarry Hill. In between, you'll find yourself amidst open fields with sweeping vistas and towering old growth forest. With a runnable elevation profile, largely non-technical trail conditions, and generous cutoffs, English's Ridge Rumble is a great race for first times AND fast times.

All registrants receive a coveted pair of SCTR socks and finishers receive a limited edition 10th anniversary microfiber towel. Technical and casual long-sleeved t-shirts can be added on during registration or purchased directly from the race store. The English's Ridge Rumble is named for race founder Scott English (who may make an appearance!), is USATF-sanctioned, Trail Sisters approved, and a UTMB Index Race.

Race Details

The race begins and ends at the Reserve Picnic Shelter. The course is an approximately 10 mile loop with about 1,300 feet of elevation gain, with varied trail including some technical (rocks and roots) sections, though the majority is double-track made up of either mulch beds, gravel, or grass and a small portion of paved park road.

There are two aid stations, one at the Start/Finish and one on course that runners pass once per 10.4 mile loop at mile ~5.5 (in the so-called "Serengeti"). Aid stations offer water, Skratch, orange slices, bananas, pickles, PB&Js, potato chips, pretzels, Oreos, and candy. Hot foods such as ramen, grilled cheese, and pierogies will be available to 50km runners starting 11 a.m.

Cutoffs are generous and intended to be approachable for first timers: For the 50km, runners must start their third loop by noon (allowing 5 hours to complete ~20.8 miles) and must make their final pass of the remote aid station by 2pm (allowing 7 hours to complete ~26.3 miles). For all distances, runners must reach the finish line by 3pm (allowing 5 hours to complete the 10 miler, 6.5 hours to complete the 20 miler, and 8 hours to complete the 50km).
