Race Specifics
Welcome runners, to the Fiery Flamingo at Alley Pond Park in beautiful Queens!!!
For those of you who attended the Frozen Flamingo 50K/70K in January, this is part 2…you braved the cold, the ice, the massive frigid puddles and the mud.
Now it’s time to prove you can beat the heat. New territory, much bigger loop, but all the fun in the sun with the rest of the flamazing flock. ??????
DISTANCES: There are two distances, each with my trademark “bonus” attached…
The course loop is 6.25 miles long on pavement and a bit of trail.
If you run 5 loops, you’ll do a 50K…that’s the first distance. Push yourself to do 2 more loops, you’ll hit a 70K and receive a separate time for each distance along with bonus swag. The medal and overall awards and published UltraSignup rankings will be for the 50K, and continuing on to 70K gets you a second time published on our Timer’s website, as well as a special finisher item which will be revealed in May on Facebook & Instagram. Start time: 7am sharp with 12 hours to finish BOTH distances, if you so choose.
For the 50 milers, you need to do exactly 8 loops. If you are tough enough to do 10 loops, you’ll earn a 100K finish with a special item denoting your accomplishment. Remember, UltraSignup rankings will reflect the 50M finish, as will your medal and overall awards. But the 100K time will be official published on the Timer’s website if you need proof of your badassery. Start time: 6am sharp with 15 hours to finish BOTH distances, if you so choose.
This means you will be running entirely in the daylight except perhaps at the very start, so there shouldn’t be any need for headlamps or illumination, except for possibly 50M/100K peeps during the first hour.
AID STATIONS: 2 stations, at the start line and at the midpoint of the course. Water and Gatorade located at both of them. You’ll also have snacks at each, but the real food will be at main.
The main station will have a rotating menu which will include: egg & cheese wraps, peanut butter & jelly, cups of cooked rice, boiled potatoes, sushi (you read that correctly), pizza, and other goodies including vegan and gluten free options.
Main aid and secondary aid will have potato chips, pickle juice, pretzels, macaroons, Swedish fish, defizzed Coke, gel packets, salt tablets, dried mango, bananas, muffins, peanuts & more.
ULTIMATE FLAMINGO: Just like in Winter, anyone can choose to run out the clock if they have time and do more loops. Whoever runs the most laps in EACH race (10 hours for 50K/70K and 15 hours for 50M/100K) will earn a special engraved glass trophy as our Ultimate Flamingo. Partial laps won’t be counted, so plan accordingly.
SWAG: All registrants who show up on race day will receive a short sleeve technical shirt.
All finishers will receive either a 50K finisher or 50M finisher medal, depending on their chosen distance. These are beautiful handmade medals of extremely high quality that are one-of-a-kind and will likely be debuted on social media in June.
The first 12 registrants who DID NOT participate in the Frozen Flamingo will receive a Flamingo Kid Racing canvas tote bag at check-in.
The first 12 returning registrants, who DID participate in the Frozen Flamingo will receive a special car magnet at check in.
BONUS FOR FLAMINGO CYCLE COMPLETION:
