About

Salt City Trail Racing, in partnership with Highland Forest County Park and Onondaga County Parks, is pleased to announce the 3rd annual Trail Prom, the second event of our 2025 race series. Prices increase after December 1, 2024 and then again on January 1, 2025. Runners who register after April 10, 2025 are not guaranteed a t-shirt.

Trail Prom is a unique race format with a unique theme. It combines an elimination-style tournament format, 2-person teams, and superb CNY trails into a fun and exciting way to log some miles with friends. Register for our traditional team race, "Senior Prom," total distance 8 to 20 miles or **NEW in 2025** for "Junior Prom," total distance 4 to 10 miles. Whichever option you chose, you will be treated to beautiful forested trails and immersed in a fun party atmosphere that continues post-race with a cookout and music.

Runners can register either as part of two-person, mixed gender teams or as as solo runners; solo runners will be paired into mixed gender two-person teams for race day. Individual runners' times for each completed round will be recorded and added to their teammates' times; the teams with the lowest combined times advance to the next round.

Trail Prom was dreamed up by Reluctant Runner Racing's Iain Nelson and friends as an homage to March Madness and the PGA Tour, and is a USATF insured event.

Race Details

Round 1 = 4-mile course, x2 for Senior Prom (8 miles), x1 for Junior Prom (4 miles)
Round 2 = 3-mile course, x2 for Senior Prom (6 miles), x1 for Junior Prom (3 miles)
Round 3 = reverse 3-mile course, x2 for Senior Prom (6 miles), x1 for Junior Prom (3 miles)

Runners start each round together; individual runners' times for each completed round will be recorded and added to their teammates' times; the teams with the lowest combined times advance to the next round with an approximately 10 minute break between each round to determine the advancing teams. The teams that complete the third round in the shortest combined times win!

It wouldn't be a trail race without a proper aid station, so the requisite trail/ultra snacks will be available at the Start/Finish area.

There are awards for the top 3 teams for each distance, with the first place teams earning the right to keep the cup for the year AND the right to pick their post-race meal from the following freshly cooked menu:

Vegan
- Grilled Mushroom
- Roasted Veggies
- Potatoes

Vegan-Free
- Filet Mignon
- Grilled Asparagus
- Potatoes

All racers and volunteers are invited to the post race cookout with games and a soundtrack of prom hits from across the ages. So that we can plan for sufficient quantities, you will be asked to select your desired quantities of hotdogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers during checkout.

More details about the race will be posted on the Salt City Trail Racing website in early 2025.

Refunds, Deferrals, and Distance Changes

Refunds will not be granted under any circumstances. Deferrals are available in case of pregnancy, injury, or electing to volunteer at the race provided volunteer slots remain. Distance changes are permitted until online registration closes at 11:59pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
